How Much advtg to type 120+WPM? (0L)
I can do ~70-80 with 99% accuracy. Would it be a fruitfull use of my down time/0l prep to try and crank this up to 120WPM? Thanks for your perspective!

Not really because you generally won't be asked to take diction notes. Speed and accuracy of typing will help you, but I don't think the difference between 60+ and 120 will help you.

Most of my exams had word limits actually.

Why the f not? Just do it if you have the time. Even if the advantage is minimal, any advantage is important.

There are probably other things you could/should be spending your prep time on. If typing speed is your biggest concern, go for it.

I would say it is a good thing, you will be doing a ton of typing in law school regardless, even if not for exam purposes, for things like memos, taking down notes, outlining.
For exams, even with a word limit it will give you more time to think/outline vs type.

that is a game that is kinda fun to play for improving typing

40-50 wpm has been enough for me to do well in law school. I'd go for accuracy.

I think accuracy is more important so you don't spend time backspacing too much. I found that the intense time pressure made me type incoherently and make lots of typos. One thing I realized is that WPM is overhyped in one aspect in that WPM won't help you much if you have trouble with quick judgment/phrasing in your answers. If you're sitting there thinking about your response too long and how to type it out, WPM doesn't seem to help there.

Typing speed is neither necessary nor sufficient to do well in law school.
Despite that, it is very helpful. More important is your ability to think quickly. If you can think quickly and type quickly, then you're ahead of the game.

Unless your brain can also think genius exam thoughts at 120 wpm, typing normal fast is more than sufficient.

Typing at 120+ WPM will be help you slightly. We don't think that fast in exams, so the usefulness will be limited. I type at about 70 WPM, and a slight increase in typing speed would probably help me. Just don't get too bogged down about maximizing typing speed as the difference between 60 WPM and 120 WPM is marginal at best in law school. Having a slower typing speed though (especially under 40 WPM) will probably hurt.

Possibly. But that's about what I type and I did just fine. Regardless, the OP is already at 70-80 anyway.random5483 wrote:Having a slower typing speed though (especially under 40 WPM) will probably hurt.
