Dreaming about classes/exams
I'm trying to get the whole 8 hours a night thing down. Last night I dreamed I was in Civ Pro class. The entire night. I got up to pee and when I went back to bed, I was still dreaming about the class.
Now I have to wake up and go to class. It's like a 15 hour block of class.
How do you maintain being normal during finals? Going to Halloween parties? Does anyone socialize in the last 5 weeks before finals?

Re: Dreaming about classes/exams
I had a dream last night that I was involved in OCI during the fall of my 2L [I'm a 1L], that I had shit-terrible grades, but still got an interview at a biglaw firm, my only OCI interview. When I walked in the door, I took an elevator to a room where everything was this strange beige-ish yellow color, let someone know I was there, then turned to sit down and my nose started to bleed. It bled and bled and bled, and when the partner came out to interview me, he was all concerned. I had to sit through what ended up being a 2 second interview with my nose bleeding profusely into a paper towel.
Even in my dreams I fear OCI and doing terribly.

This is all normal. Research shows that during certain phases of sleep your mind creates stressful situations that you may encounter to help figure out the best response. As a result, if you encounter that scenario you do not suffer as much stress and can deal with it without a psychotic break. It's all driven by stress, try exercise and forcing yourself to not think about LS for an hour or two before bed. You are also not dreaming about it the entire period you are asleep...just those phases of sleep. You just happened to wake up during that phase so it's what you remembered.
It's so prevalent they did training on it when I was in the military to help people understand it.

When I first took a foreign language, the teacher told us that we would know we were starting to get it when we started to dream in the new language. So, perhaps this is a good sign and not necessarily a bad thing?
I am trying to keep an optimistic attitude today...

That is really interesting, and totally logical, yet I've never heard it before.blowhard wrote:This is all normal. Here's to hoping, though, that I don't experience grand-scale nosebleeds during CB interviews.

i was having a really hard time organizing a specific part of my last memo. i had an epiphany in a dream about how to organize it and when i woke up i went straight and did it, and i think it really worked better that way. it was so awesome.

Re: Dreaming about classes/exams
After exams both semesters of 1L, I would dream about sitting down and correcting my own exam, picking out every issue I missed and every fact I didn't use. Unfortunately, when I woke up I realized that everything I discovered in my dream was completely true and I would therefore freak out about finals even after they were over. I ended up doing just fine.

My wife told me that I was talking about classes in my sleep last night. I vaguely remember dreaming about Torts hypos, so I wasn't too surprised.

Re: Dreaming about classes/exams
After finals were over my first semester of 1L I dreamed about classes and exams constantly. I had a particular recurring dream where I'd be standing in a train station in Paris, staring up at the big board that flips letters and numbers to display incoming and outgoing trains and times. Suddenly all the flippies on the board would go nutso and when they stopped moving the names of my classes and my grades would be displayed up there for everyone to see: C, B, C-, F. I guess my brain was preparing for the worst, lol.

Ugh, exam nightmares. Don't remind me.quiver wrote:After exams both semesters of 1L, I would dream about sitting down and correcting my own exam, picking out every issue I missed and every fact I didn't use. Re: Dreaming about classes/exams
I had a dream that I got a C- on my torts exam. This was like two weeks into class... so awful.
I've found that if I'm exhausted when I go to bed I tend to dream less (or remember them less at least). So I try to avoid napping, as tempting as it is, and to get up early and be really active during the day.

Re: Dreaming about classes/exams
These types of dreams are normal, but they are very draining. Be happy that you are actually asleep. My 1L year was marked with restless nights spending hours trying to fall asleep. I could not shut my brain off long enough to fall asleep. It was very frustrating. However, the extra time spent analyzing law probably helped land me at the top of the class.
