is it possible to not get sick for an entire semester? Forum

my immune system is pretty average but i have been careful about not getting sick (washing my hands constantly, eating vitamins). one by one, i saw my section mates fall and thought i was doing okay. i'm 100% sick now - not sure if it is common cold or the flu.

has anyone gone through their 1L fall semester without getting sick at all? just wondering

I would not be surprised if moving to a new place and being exposed to a whole new set of people (who are carrying a whole new selection of bacteria and viruses that your immune system might not have seen yet) is almost a guarantee to get sick at least once.

i didn't get sick at all last year. +1 to the above poster who mentioned adequate sleep. make sure you're getting at least 7 hours of sleep a night. i know it can get difficult, but regularly getting significantly less than that will take a toll on your immune system, as well as your learning ability.

also, try to find time for exercising. it's a good way to reduce stress, which is another thing that affects your immune system.

yep sleeping is the only thing i haven't been doing. stupid 8:30 classes. going to try and catch up on the z's and make sure they are consistent for the home stretch.

1) eat at least 1g of protein per lb of body weight per day, fucking muscle milk is so credited
2) take supplements, like all of them, especially multivitamin, fish oil, and creatine
3) get a flu vaccine
4) when ur friends start getting sick, dose ur self with airborne until ur pee is florescent
5) stop sleeping with sluts and making out with randos at bars on november 1st

ive followed this plan since '02 and havent been sick since, HTH

OJ, preferably Tropicana or fresh-squeezed. I swear by OJ, it has kept me from getting sick or when I start feeling like I might come down w/ something, I load up on it and boom....fine.

Sleeping and OJ will keep it mild even if you do get sick. A minor cold is no big deal but I imagine a minor one would really set you back.

Also my super secret sore throat / stuffy nose / cough remedy: Take a swig of rum in that morning and gargle that shit. Breath in and out the fumes. Then spit it out (or swallow if you want to kill 2 birds with one stone). I did that and avoided this bug that was going around. My throat is getting a bit raspy again (like 4 weeks later) so I'm back on my treatment. So for it seems to be working.

I did not get sick during my 1L year. I did hurt myself (twisted ankle and even a spiderbite that was not fun) and was often tired, but I was not sick. Doubt I am average though because I rarely get sick, like maybe once every 2-3 years.

I'm halfway through my semester and I've already gotten sick twice. It sucked, but you can get through it. I didn't miss any class and managed to keep up with reading, but only because I slept literally every minute I wasn't doing that. I think the only time it would be absolutely brutal would be during the last 3 weeks before finals or during finals.

and I second what everyone else has said; get your vitamins, eat at least slightly healthy, and make sure to get enough rest.
