When do you take the MPRE?

Post by Royal » Sun Sep 25, 2011 11:26 am

2L here. My school hasn't so much as mentioned the MPRE. Do most people take it during 3L? Should I take my professional responsibility course the same semester as the MPRE? I was originally planning on taking this class 2L spring.

I think it's common take it on the first possible date following their PR course. For a spring course I think that's like, August though. The majority of people here either take PR in the fall or J-term and the MPRE in Feb/March.

The PR class actually isn't required to take the test. You could take it during your PR semester or even before. How wise that is, I don't know.

I took it in the spring of my 2L year. I chose that because I didn't want to study very hard, and that would give me plenty of opportunity to retake if it turned out to be harder than I though. I was taking my PR class that same semester, but that was coincidence. You don't really need to take PR to take the MPRE, and I think that studying for the MPRE will help you do well in PR more than taking PR will help you do well on the MPRE.

Edit to add: my strategy paid off, BTW. I studied moderately for about a week before the test and passed.
