Don't skip a bunch of classes just because you think you can- you can't.

Only miss classes when you are really sick (i.e. fever) or when you are a 2L going to interviews/callbacks.

If you have a fever/are contagious for the love of God do not go. It's rude.

Especially in a law building where everyone is so close.

How do you go from saying that it depends on the professor in an earlier post and then authoritatively say that you cannot miss class?

Missing class is really not that big of a deal. Just don't make it a habit. And chill out.

Many 2Ls miss way more time in classes that are curved the same as 1L classes and still maange to do fine.

Thats because the classes are curved. With curved classes if lots of people are missing class, then lots of people... wait, wait, do I really have to explain this to you?

In 1L, there will not be a lot of people missing class.
Well true, but it's not the whole class. But I guess those who miss the most class to callbacks are usually the best students anyway.

Like I said, best not to miss class. But if something comes, I really wouldn't hesitate to miss a class here and there.

completely depends on the prof from my experience. 1L year i had some profs who made it clear they'd test stuff from lectures, and they did. most, however, didn't. even then, just get notes from a couple people and you're fine.

In the first few weeks of 1L, I think I got a decent feel for which professors frequently covered things that were not complete recitations of the textbook materials, and especially those that frequently expressed opinions which differed from the written materials. I don't think it's a hard analysis to make if you pay any semblance of attention to class and the reading. Do not skip those.

In other classes, the professor followed the textbook almost to a letter. I skipped those as a matter of course, because I figured the hour I saved by not going to class, listening to my comrades' inane questions that Koko-the-sign-language-gorilla could have answered by a cursory skimming of the readings, could be better spent elsewhere. It also helped me retain some semblance of my faith in humanity, at least until I went through the cavalcade of absurdity that is 2L hiring season.

First, if you're really sick, definitely don't go to class. But do go to the health center.

Second, find out if your school videotapes the lectures. If they do, thank your lucky stars and watch them when you're well enough. This is what I did last year when I was sick or had to miss class for some other reason (I missed very few classes, though. I liked going to class.)

Are you serious? If you're sick/contagious, you really shouldn't go to class. If you get notes from a friend and go to office hours when you're back at school, you'll be fine.

Go when your contagious. You won't miss class.
If your classmates get sick, they might miss class.

A bad idea, young man.

It depends on the professor. Yes its usually a waste of time, but sometimes you get what leews (highly reccomended) calls "nuggets" of information. I.e. in my fed income tax, the professor said, and remember in real life and on the exam, you should always challenge relevancy on 401 grounds followed by 403 grounds.

He's telling us how to answer part of his exam question. That makes it worth it for me.

Speaking of nuggets, I couldn't get your under pants clean. So I'm just going to throw that pair away.

I probably missed about 20-25% of some of my 1L classes. If I could do it over again, this number would be lower, but as things stand it didn't kill me.

What difference does it honestly make to you if someone says they missed class and still did fine? You already missed class. It's done and over. You should be asking yourself what is the best thing to do to compensate for having missed a class. Go get notes from someone else, look at what was covered on during the class by referring to the syllabus, and work twice as hard to get back to where you should be if you hadn't missed the class.

As for the argument about being sick and missing class, that's different from asking if missing class is okay. The latter will provide you with a sense of complacency and you could end up missing class when you probably could have gone.

If I'm sick, I'll still go to class. If I'm contagious, I'll still go. You know why? Because I can. I'm paying 40K a year for like 20 hours of classroom time a week. I'm not doing the math but that must mean I'm paying a pretty penny for each hour of each class.

In the working world, especially in the legal profession, you'll be working when you're sick, unless of course you don't mind underachieving. Consider law school classes as training.
