Re: how do you backup your files?
I keep two flash drives. Every Wednesday night I drag my documents folder into the flash drive and label it "documents - XX-XX-2011." That way not only do I have all my current documents in their current state, I have all my documents in their previous states. Perhaps I should do it more often (twice a week).

Re: how do you backup your files?
A lot of people keep their stuff (or back it up) on Dropbox. Then it can be accessed from any computer, in case yours dies or gets stolen.
You can also get a plug drive (like a Pogoplug) to keep at home, hooked up to the network, and access it from anywhere.
I wouldn't trust a single flash drive...too easy to lose, accidentally write over, or get corrupted.

Re: how do you backup your files?
as others have said Dropbox. Amazing free backup tool. 2 gigs of free space, automatically backups files and also updates those files on any other computer that you run your account on. I use it to keep my laptop and home PC synced in terms of school files. Also, i can access any of those files online in case I need to print off a school computer. No more e-mailing to myself. all very handy imo. I believe, although I have not used the function, it also saves old versions so you can retroactively go back and recover files that have been overwritten.

You can put pretty much anything on Dropbox. I run my Onenote files off of Dropbox so it automatically syncs when I open it, not matter what computer.

Save your Onenote notebook to your dropbox folder once, then it will continuously save it there from now on, without you having to do anything.

Re: how do you backup your files?
I actually use onenote and dropbox a bit differently from the rest. I like having folders organized on my PC and not all in the dropbox folder, just in case I load dropbox on another PC and delete the files or something, so I set the "backup" folder in onenote options to my dropbox folder. For my other documents, I use EaseUS Todo Backup (freeware), I set it to backup into the dropbox folder, and it backs up 3 times a day, 12 noon, 6 PM, 12 midnight.

Re: how do you backup your files?
I use Carbonite and love it. Yeah, you have to pay for it, but it backs up everything except system files automatically and I don't have to think about it. My old firm used it and it was great, so I find the peace of mind well worth it. At $130 bucks (or whatever it is) for all three years of law school, I thought it was a pretty good deal.
I also use DropBox for my documents in case I'm ever in a situation where I would immediately need access to documents after a hardware failure. But, 2.5 GB just isn't enough for all my data and I prefer the automatic backup feature of Carbonite.

Re: how do you backup your files?
Dropbox works wonders.
I use OneNote and have everything on OneNote. I store my OneNote folder on by dropbox folder (saved on my computer). Dropbox syncs all the information online and to my computer harddrives. This way, I can use OneNote on my laptop or desktop and have the same information on both (automatic syncing). Also, if my copies on both computers get lost, the copy online is still there.
Dropbox rocks because you have the information online and on your computers. If offline, the moment you get online everything will sync. A 2 gig limit for space, but increasable to 8 gigs if you invite friends (250 mb per I believe). 2 gigs is plenty for law school related work anyway.

Re: how do you backup your files?
1. Create a dropbox account at http://www.dropbox.com.OneEl14 wrote:How do you do this?kalvano wrote:You can put pretty much anything on Dropbox. I run my Onenote files off of Dropbox so it automatically syncs when I open it, not matter what computer.
2. Install dropbox on all your computers.
3. Move your OneNote folders or create the new OneNote notebook in the Dropbox folder (saved on hardrive and auto syncs online).
4. Open the Notebook from your other computers.
After that you are all set. Any changes will sync to your dropbox and to any computer accounts with dropbox installed (given that they are all online). Offline computers will sync when they get online.

Re: how do you backup your files?
Appreciate it, thanks. If I simply copy an existing OneNote notebook into the dropbox folder, it won't automatically update? I need to actually move the notebook into the dropbox folder?random5483 wrote:1.
