Part time job?
Hey future 1L here, wondering what your opinions are on part time jobs during 1L. I have heard that we aren't supposed to work but I hear some students are offered work study position so I dont know if this is true. Assuming we are allowed to have part time positions, do you think I should/could manage 6-10 hours a week working from home doing clerical non stressful work?
I would love the income but I don't want to put more on my plate than I can handle. Im taking four classes my first year.
Appreciate your thoughts.
Thanks!

I voted no, but I will add that it might be feasible if your job is willing to give you large blocks of time off, like during finals.

Lots of people work during 1L, such as part time students working 50 hours per week while taking 12 credit hours, and not taking any time off to study for exams.

I voted yes because I intend to work 10 hours a week. I don't know if it's ideal, but sometimes it's necessary for financial reasons.

I'm confused. I thought you were only allowed to work if you were a PT student and that if you are FT the ABA doesn't allow you to work?
Am I missing something?

I think the ABA rule is no more than 20 hours but some schools will not allow 1Ls to work.fingersxd wrote:I'm confused. I thought you were only allowed to work if you were a PT student and that if you are FT the ABA doesn't allow you to work?

Definitely wouldn't recommend it, but if you do decide to do it, wait until classes start before making any commitments.
I seriously considered trying to get a job on or around campus, but the first month of LS dissuaded me. I didn't (and still don't think) the small disposable income was worth the lost time.

Thanks guys! I will give the first few weeks a try and see how I feel about the workload. The income would be great, could be grocery money lol
