Class Rank Breakdown
Hi, I'm wondering if anyone has what a typical class rank breakdown by gpa would be for a school with a 3.0 curve? Thank you very much.

Not enough info, unfortunately.

Sorry, I realize without more specific info you can't give an exact breakdown. I'm just wondering in general, what a typical breakdown would be with a 3.0 median.

Re: Class Rank Breakdown
You need a couple of data points. For example, if I asked you what the top 10% was with a 3.2 median and 3.6 top 15%, that is possible to figure out.

No, it is actually impossible to give any sort of breakdown without one more data point.
If you knew that 10% were a 3.xx, then a rough approximation could be given.

Anything higher than a 3.0 is above median, lower than a 3.0 is below median, 3.0 is median.wswalt wrote:Hi, I'm wondering if anyone has what a typical class rank breakdown by gpa would be for a school with a 3.0 curve? Thank you very much.

Re: Class Rank Breakdown
It's not even correct. If every class has a 3.0 mean (or even median), the aggregate median is not guaranteed to be 3.0 (though if the mean is curved to 3.0, the aggregate mean must of course be 3.0)wswalt wrote:Giddy-Up wrote:Anything higher than a 3.0 is above median, lower than a 3.0 is below median, 3.0 is median.wswalt wrote:Hi, I'm wondering if anyone has what a typical class rank breakdown by gpa would be for a school with a 3.0 curve? Student 1 A A A - 4.000
Student 2 B C B - 2.667
Student 3 C B C - 2.333
Median = 2.667

Re: Class Rank Breakdown
You need another point on the curve. If all you know is the median, the curve could be very steep, with almost everyone clustered right around median and hardly any top and bottom grades, or it could be flatter, with relatively even distribution all the way across and plenty of top and bottom grades.
