If you could do your 1L over again...
Whats going on TLS? I'm new to the forums and this is my first post... Sorry if this is a thread somewhere else.
2Ls and 3Ls, If you could go back to your 1L year what is one or two things you would do differently (class and test Preparation wise)?
thanks in advance! And good luck on Finals!!

Interested in this as well, and wouldn't mind more broad answers besides just class and test prep.sneijder wrote:Whats going on TLS? I'm new to the forums and this is my first post... Sorry if this is a thread somewhere else.

I would have focused more than I did on the topics I disliked. Other than that, nothing.

Studied more like I did the first semester the second semester.
I rocked all my exams last semester, and I am not so sure I did all that well this semester. Could just be pessimism though since I tend to think I did (or will do) badly in exams.

Seriously, for OP, this is the worst time ever to start this threadBaylan wrote:TITCR.Cavalier wrote:Not come to law school.

Most of lawl skool isn't bad (and can be enjoyable at times, at least for me). Exams make me feel like jabbing a rusty spork in my skull.

Its like asking someone about their marathon on the 25th mile, when their head hurts, can barely breathe, feet are calloused and swollen, dehydration is at its peak, and you just all around question your own sanity for putting yourself through such torture. You don't exactly get an unbiased perspective in such moments.

I've had some nice experiences and met some good people.
But I could have done that elsewhere, while doing something actually productive, making money, and enjoying my early 20s. And frankly I've realized that I can't stand the legal industry and am very unsure about how long I'll last as a lawyer. 3 years + $$$ = oops.
Would not make the same decision again.

Yeah, see, I did that before going to lawl skool, so I don't have those types of regrets.prezidentv8 wrote:I've had some nice experiences and met some good people.

I just hate exam stress and feeling like I'm at the mercy of the curve and that I just got "lucky" last semester and am going to end up on the 'bad' stair this time

I know how you feel. I aced all my exams last semester, but I am so sure I am going to do worse this semester.keg411 wrote:Yeah, see, I did that before going to lawl skool, so I don't have those types of regrets.prezidentv8 wrote:I've had some nice experiences and met some good people.

Well...not gonna say I regret it, but I would definitely have chosen to do something else with my time. Can only move forward though.keg411 wrote:Yeah, see, I did that before going to lawl skool, so I don't have those types of regrets.prezidentv8 wrote:I've had some nice experiences and met some good people.

Poor guy was just looking for some advice on how to do well in law school, and now he gets a bunch of people telling him to run.
(not to say that there isn't justification to some of that advice)
As far as class/test prep goes, I guess I would have taken more practice exams and finished outlines a little earlier. You don't have to start outlining right away (if you are going to outline at all), but I suggest starting on at least one or two classes about midway through the semester.
I also would have started getting ready for the summer job search a little earlier so I was in a position to send everything out on December 1. I can't complain about what I have lined up, but I feel like some doors were closed because I applied a little later (early January), and that irritates me a bit that I let that happen.
It's funny, I was talking to someone the other night about how law school is difficult for all the "wrong" reasons. It really isn't the material itself that is so difficult, but it is the way it is presented, the hide-the-ball tactics, the pressure of the curve, the pressure of the economy, the pressure you put on yourself, etc. Law school just doesn't have to be this hard. Nonetheless, it is an experience and certainly a challenge. Most importantly it is how you become a lawyer. So despite all the bullshit, it's still worth it, assuming you know you want to be an attorney.

Outlining earlier is something ive heard from many people not just on this forum. And no worries man I have some friends that are 1Ls and I understand why some people are irriatable at this point of the yeartraehekat wrote:Poor guy was just looking for some advice on how to do well in law school, and now he gets a bunch of people telling him to run.(not to say that there isn't justification to some of that advice)

It isn't the first time dealing with exams, this is literally the home stretch for everyone. My last exam is Thursday, I start LR write-on and work the following Monday. I have moot court tryouts on the 20th. But I get three, glorious, law-school-less days until all that starts again. They will be filled with alcohol, volunteer work (damn me for committing to that months ago), and hopefully more alcohol. Then the grind starts again, but in a different way.keg411 wrote:Seriously, for OP, this is the worst time ever to start this threadBaylan wrote:TITCR.Cavalier wrote:Not come to law school.

OP should ask this in a month, too, like, once we all get grades back and have decided whether to WIN (transfer up/LR grade on) or Meh (median) or /self (curvepwned at TTT)

Re: If you could do your 1L over again...
my original question was to 2 and 3Ls, because they would have already fully experienced their 1Ls...but yea I agree, people that are still in their 1L this is a hard question unless you had something to share that you changed from 1st to 2nd semester..Baylan wrote:It isn't the first time dealing with exams, this is literally the home stretch for everyone.
