Panic! will I fail LRW???!!!! Plz come by take a look thx
The grades are not out yet ... but just happened to find out I cited the wrong case and the whole brief was pretty much based on the "wrong" law (not sure if it is "wrong", but definitely not what the prof would have expected)...
My midterm grades were ok, a little above the median ... but the final brief would really suck. Uggggg
Just want to see how you guys think a LRW prof would fail a student? I really really dun want to retake this year long class, it's such an incredible pain -- we basically needed to turn in a 2000-word draft every other week! plus weekly reserach projects along the way!! OMG~~~

How "wrong" of a case are we talking about here? Is it an appeals court case that was overturned by the supreme court, a persuasive decision rather than a precedential one for the forum, etc.
Just saying the "wrong" case may not be as bad as you think.

I hope your finals are over b/c you don't really need this kind of stress, especially since there's nothing you can do about it now.
My experience with LRW is not what law you cite to or how well you Bluebook, but rather how persuasive your paper is. While citing to the right law is by far the most persuasive, I believe if you're making a good/cohesive argument, you should be fine. As a 4L, I have yet to meet anyone that failed LRW and had to retake it again. LRW professors (adjuncts) tend to be the most understanding and relaxed faculty. But again, a "B-" might be considered failing by some gunners' standard.
If you had to submit 2000-words draft throughout the semester, I'm surprised that no one caught the "wrong" law. Maybe they just thought it was persuasive enough and/or a creative argument. Good luck!

Thanks for responding.
It's hard to explain how "wrong" it is (sorry I dun want to leave too many details here coz I know my classmates are browsing this forum:)
The case itself is not overturned. Let's say the synthesized rules I pulled out from a bunch of cases were in a different direction ...
The final brief is a new one based on a new fact pattern -- when I said bi-weekly draft I meant we drafted several different memos/briefs throughout the year...

I feel like most teachers don't even notice. They just look to see how you've written things. It might not be so bad.

I don't think you will "fail". I feel like in order to fail, you would have to turn in a copy of Charlie Sheen's Twitter posts smeared with feces.
However, I don't think you will get a very good grade.

i highly doubt it. if the prof could construe your mistake as simply just citing the wrong case, you should be fine. if it is clear you have no clue what you are talking about regarding the law and its not a little mistake like citing something wrong, then that could be a problem (even then, who knows).

LW at my school is on a very harsh curve. That said, I've heard profs say it's near impossible to fail the class. The only way you can fail is if you actually don't turn in multiple assignments. They will give you D's, but unless you try to fail, you won't.

I don't think they even read the papers, so you'll be OK.

I think you'd have to write the brief in crayon and cite the Klingon laws of honor before you should worry about actually failing.
