Where do prefer to sit in class?

Post by zeth006 » Wed Mar 30, 2011 3:39 pm

What works for you? Front? Back? Middle? Doesn't matter?

Personally I find that sitting more toward the front gives me less of a temptation to web surf.

Definitely agree with the bolded, although I always sit in the back. Luckily caffeine usually keeps me motivated and energized during class so I don't waste too much time websurfing.

Somewhat similar situation. Sat in the middle/center last semester for most of my classes and had no problem hearing the prof or other people. But once I started sitting in the back, it got tougher to hear other people talking. I guess I could chalk it up to years of listening to music on earphones. One thing's for sure. I'm probably going to try sitting more toward middle/side so I can hear most people and leave class in a jiffy.

Last row in the middle is my favorite spot. I hate sitting on the extreme left or right side. If I dont wanna do it at a movie theatre why would I want to do it here?

The back of the back rows. Back to the wall kind of back row.

Then when I get called on and folks are trying to figure out who is answering they all have to turn and crane their necks to see who is speaking

Yeah that far back.

Middle on the sides, FTW. I have a prof who likes to call on the back row a lot, and front row is where everyone can see you. Middle-sides is easy to get out and no one looks at you.

This. Not in LS yet but I do this in my grad classes-- makes you look interested (by not sitting in the back) while being able to leave easy and be comfortable at the end of the row.

Middle to front and always on the left side (end seat of the row when possible). I don't mind being in the front, but I hate being in the middle. I don't like the feeling as though a professor is talking only with me, and constantly making eye contact.

i started sitting in the front or middle on the side closest to the door freshman year. it just feels right.
i just sat in the middle in high school, and my teachers let me sleep through everything because they knew that i knew that they knew that i knew the material. how i miss those days.

i try to sit on the end of the row so I don't have someone on one side of me. Lets me spread out book, notes, and laptop without being crammed in.

Eye level with the professor if possible. Sadly, I do actually listen in class, so it helps not to have to look down or up the whole time.

TITCR

I hate having to get in and out of the rows, and middle is the perfect balance of being able to stay engaged while not being right in the crosshairs. I usually go for an aisle seat in the fourth or fifth row.

I wonder if there is a correlation between location in class and grades. I know my high school students who sat in the "T zone" always did better.
