Looking for a room or apartment close to GULC
Hi all,
I'm starting at Georgetown next fall and I'm beginning my apartment/room search now. I know, I know, it's WAY in advance. But I'm living abroad and won't be back in the States until beginning of August -- and even then I'll be in Seattle, not DC, until August 15. Sooo.... I thought maybe someone here could help me. Maybe you know someone vacating a room? Or you are? Or maybe you're living somewhere amazing but not renewing your lease?
A little about what I'm looking for: I would like to live within a 15-20 min walk of GULC and pay around $1300 (including utilities). I know this doesn't give me a ton of options and it means I'll definitely be sharing a place. That's OK. I've looked into some of the apartment buildings with sunrooms/dens converted into bedrooms and I'm pretty intrigued by that idea. (Unless I get an overwhelming response that this option is awful.) I would like to bring my awesome cat, but it's not necessary. I can always put him to sleep. Just kidding. He can keep living with the parents. I'm open to renting a room, but I'm also open to renting the whole apartment and finding roommates.
If you have any ideas or suggestions, please please please send them my way!
Thanks TLS community!

What about Gewirz? Not sure how much it costs/how difficult it is to get a room there.

A lot of GULC people live in the NE capitol hill area. Quite a few of the rowhouses are rented by the room.

Easy to find 2 and 3 BR rowhouses around Stanton Park/Lincoln Park area where you will be paying around 1K a month including utilities (w/roommate obviously). Its a safe, residential area within walking distance of two fun spots (H Street and Eastern Market), and you can either bike or hop on a bus to get to GULC (or walk, depending on where you live).

The Meridian at Gallery Place is a nice building where a lot of GULC students live. It's very close to the school. I think they have 2 bedrooms for about $2600.

I live in DC. There is a building almost right next to the law campus called Mass Court that a lot of G-town law students live in. I have a couple of friends who live there and like it.
You should have no problem finding a room in a townhouse with a couple of other people within a 15-20 minute walk in your price range. I rented a place around there for $875/month plus utilities when I first moved to DC a couple of years ago. Generally, the best place to find housing in DC is Craigslist. Honestly, you shouldn't have a problem finding something even if you wait until July.
