Free Moot Competition in Chicago April 16th & 17th
Soliciting teams to compete in the first annual University of Chicago National Animal Law Moot Court Competition on April 16th and 17th.
Yes, I know for many this is painfully close to finals. But, preparing for this competition is EASY - it is oral advocacy only. Read a few briefs then practice with your friends. Win or lose, you have something great to add to your resume.
This competition is also FREE (thanks to a generous donation from the McCormick Companion Animals Fund) and I believe travel stipends are available through the Animal Legal Defense Fund.
"Animal law," you groan? Let me assure you, this is not a touchy-feely topic. The legal issue is preemption - and, besides, you will be arguing both sides.
Check it out at http://www.law.uchicago.edu/studentorgs/saldf.
See Chicago while padding your resume.
/shameless plug.

Bumping because I confirmed some details:
$400 travel stipends are available for students from schools with active Student Animal Legal Defense Fund chapters. We've secured a great rate at a nice downtown hotel ($63) and will be offering a shuttle service to Hyde Park. (Even cheaper options are available in Hyde Park - but why would you come to Chicago to stay in Hyde Park?)
Also, 1Ls are welcome to compete.
Still a couple spots left!

Do we have to be active in this organization? Do they reimburse you the $400 or give you the $400 so you can book your flight?

You don't have to be active to compete, but you do need an active SALDF chapter to request your reimbursement. And it is a reimbursement, so you've got to front the cash.
