Impossible to gauge the correct answer without knowing the entire circumstances surrounding your position, but I will say this: if I'm an unemployed 3L, I'll be pulling every string and phoning in every connection I have to get a job. This appears to be a connection.

Best case scenario: he offers you a position. Worst case scenario: he declines and you are back in the same spot you are in now. Seems like a no-brainer.
