Jury Trial Question

Good ol' Civ Pro exam tommorow. A few weeks back a question came up in class about whether a certain case was entitled to a jury trial or not and the case seemed to be equitable in nature. The answer was that it was entitled because it was a common law writ. How do you know what these are?
