Could someone explain to me
Why WestLaw moves at a glacial pace. I hate Lexis, but WLN is so slow at times I'm almost tempted to use their competitor.

How can you hate Lexis? I much prefer them.

Westlaw Next seems to be pretty snappy and is amazing for organizational purposes. It's probably the major reason I actually like legal writing,

How could anybody hate lexis when it has the "copy w/ cite", "more like this", AND "shepards"?

I should pitch the idea to Google for a GoogleLegal. Given how much better their search engine is, and how much firms pay Westlaw/Lexis they could make a killing.

My thoughts exactly. The only people that dont hate Lexis are people who's schools didn't get WestlawNext.inchoate_con wrote:Have you used WestlawNext?jdubb990 wrote:How could anybody hate lexis when it has the "copy w/ cite", "more like this", AND "shepards"?

I use Lexis for aesthetic reasons. It looks prettier.

These same features are available in the basic version of Westlaw.jdubb990 wrote:How could anybody hate lexis when it has the "copy w/ cite", "more like this", AND "shepards"?

They have Google Scholar right now. It's pretty decent for preliminary research.skoobily doobily wrote:I should pitch the idea to Google for a GoogleLegal. Given how much better their search engine is, and how much firms pay Westlaw/Lexis they could make a killing.

WestlawNext already scooped your idea. They now have a pretty damn good natural language search algorithm.skoobily doobily wrote:I should pitch the idea to Google for a GoogleLegal. Given how much better their search engine is, and how much firms pay Westlaw/Lexis they could make a killing.

Anything that can be done, can be done better by Google. This is true of all things, including contradictions. Yeah, perhaps Google should try to acquire Lexis. The thing that Google is lacking is the raw data. They don't have a few million cases digitized. A collaboration between Google and Lexis would be pretty cool.skoobily doobily wrote:Anything that can be done, can be done better by Google. This is true of all things, including contradictions. Yeah I am using Safari, but its the same gig with FireFox as well.
KeyCite with WLN + Copy with Reference made the memo a breeze. All the librarians hate WLN with a passion, as it effectively eliminates the need for them. If we could only now get rid of the circulation desk and take the $75k a year were spending on them and put in a Starbucks in their place. Actual utility out of the library.

That really is the only thing I could see competing with WLN. It would be interesting to say the least.JazzOne wrote:[
