I'm starting to do research on Westlaw, and aside from actually learning how to do the searches, I want to try to earn as many points as possible. What are the best ways to earn the most points.

It seems easier to earn points on Lexis.

Very true,

In general training is the way to go, but just log in every day and search something. Don't go overboard as there is a daily and weekly cap.
