3L Schedule - Litigation/Crim Law in mind. Advice?
Hey crowd,
What do you all think of this 3L schedule? I want to focus on litigation and criminal law practice ... I already did the Criminal Procedures, Remedies, Admin Law, all that good stuff.
Conflict of Laws
Medical Malpractice
Pre-Trial Practice
Legal Drafting for Business Lawyers
Scientific Evidence
Federal Income Tax
I'm sadly not on any journals/review/extra cirric (aside from litigating hearings and other stuff on my free time for indigent clients... I've won everything, thank god), and I have no life, so huge cred loads aren't an issue.
Any other classes to recommend/delete for what I'm looking to do in the future?
Thanks

Thanks for the reply ... the bottom of the post notes, though, that I don't have any extra curriculars (clinics included). Since this is my 3L year, that's pretty the end of it.
Thanks to the crappy economy, every Schlomo out there applied to clinics for this year... sadly, it's most likely reflective of what it'll be like applying for real jobs in a year.

If you want to do crim work try to get an internship with a local DA or PD office and get (a) experience and (b) some connections. Also, if you haven't taken trial practice or evidence yet, you should take both of those.

Also, for the love of poop, cross Conflict of Laws off your list. Drivel.

This will be me in 3L year, haha. It's either crim law or personal injury trial work for me....most likely PI.

I take it you didn't transfer to Michigan.A'nold wrote:This will be me in 3L year, haha. It's either crim law or personal injury trial work for me....most likely PI.

I actually really like PI law. I would do it if I went to Yale.

OP, did you work for the PD or SA office during your summers? Are you planning to after graduation?

I'm interning for a PD office this summer; I'm getting a lot of on-the-ground experience in court. I'd rather do civil litigation since I like having that big tool kit of torts/contracts, strategy, negotiation elements, etc. Prosecution doesn't seem like a bad gig for me, either.
Is Conflict of Laws a waste? I've encountered a lot of issues with that in my internship and thought it might be interesting. If it's just a rehash of International Shoe, then maybe not.

There are Restatements on it. Depending on your professor, it's an academic tail-chaser. Get some skill-based classes, especially for trial work--depositions, voir dire, cross-x techniques, pretrial, etc.
