Journal rankings--where to find?
Can someone post the link to the law school journal rankings? Didn't make law review, but made a couple of secondaries, so now it's time to decide...

Re: Journal rankings--where to find?
Congrats on getting on a journal! My advice, totally unsolicited, is the 'rankings of journals" after the flagship mean squat for your future job search because they are based on what/who is published in them, how often they get cited ect., not the students/schools. If one of the journals is in an area you would like to practice that's a plus, but even bigger is how often you can get published. Publications are like resume gold. So, just based on what i experienced, those would be the top two considerations for me if I was to do it again. You may have other factors not listed here for choosing on journal over another, so go with that.truthypants wrote:Can someone post the link to the law school journal rankings? Resume gold, eh? Never knew that before...soooo...I should write something publishable then? Would this be worth the time?Matthies wrote:Congrats on getting on a journal! Thanks--I could've sworn there was another one. Maybe this is it, though.mallard wrote:http://lawlib.wlu.edu/lj/

Shouldn't you base your decision on whether or not there is journal which focuses on an area of law in which you are interested?

Hell yea. Have you taken any seminar courses yet? I found paper course like that lend themselves well to turning into something publishable (if its gets published is another story). Also it doe snot have to just be in journals, if you have something of interest for the bar association or local bar magazine they are allays looking for stuff to publish. I just got an e-mail yesterday or the day before from the ABA's Enegry section putting a call out for the fall publication. Also writing compeations, wining one of those is gold too, your school should have a list and you usually get published.prezidentv8 wrote:Resume gold, eh? I have nothing valuable to add, except that I am extremely jealous that you have your results already. I still have to wait another two weeks or so to find out if I made LR. Grrrrr.

One word of advice from past experience, Do not write about something that has the chance to become settled law in the next 12 months. I.e something that the USSC might hear. I had this freaking great paper already accepted for publication on Desalination Plants Cooling Water Intakes, the Clean Water Act and CA Clean Water Act. Then the court heard and ruled the opposite direction of my argument before the journal went to press (it can take six months or more from submission to publication depending on the journal)/ Killed it.
