Re: Top of the Class at Fordham
1. This is going to vary from year to year, but most likely is in the 3.65 to 3.7 range. We don't have a ton of grade inflation, as you know, and these numbers correspond with roughly top 5-6%. (If someone knows exact data from any recent year, please post.)
2. I hear the top 15 students are offered a small amount to stay, but it's just that; a small amount. It's not going to be enough to bribe anyone away from going to CLS/NYU/T14 of choice if that person is adamant about leaving. Top 3% at Fordham is one hell of a GPA to abandon, however.
3. Depends on you and your goals. If you have the grades to get CLS or NYU, you are pretty safe here, even now. Top 5-10% plus law review (if applicable) at Fordham should do you just fine, given historical trends and an expected uptick (albeit a small one) in this year's OCI. CLS/NYU will get you access to other markets, but particularly if you make law review here, it's far from a given that it would be worth it to abandon rank and connections. There are certainly doors that NYU and CLS would make it easier to open, but if you've seen our OCI list and like the firms on it, you'll basically get first pick if you stay.

Congratulations on a great year! Whether you should transfer is such a personal question. Only you can factor in your financial situation, how well you've gotten along with your classmates, whether you like the school, the value of a Columbia/NYU degree, etc. But there's no harm in putting the applications in and then making the decision after you get accepted. By then maybe you'll find out if you're on law review and if you have scholarship offers.

I feel like the presitige of graduating frmo either NYU or Columbia would help set you up for life, but depending on your goals Fordham might egt you there just as well, or maybe better. Do you have an opportunity to try to write-on at the law review of the aforementioned schools? Very tough decision, but a good one to have to deal with; congratulations.

If you want to abandon Fordham and transfer, it seems like the logical choice would be to go to Georgetown, not NYU/CLS.
