I'm so glad he has a name (and a nationality) now.

How do you BP people decide which thread to derail? You always come in droves. Is there a method to the madness?

This is the kind of failed logic that has saddled myself and my parents with much debt (not saying I'm "brilliant", but when you're 17 you want to go to the best school you can, not whichever crappy school has offered you a full ride, housing and stipend)vexion wrote:This is ridiculous FUD. 1) It was a joke.pugalicious wrote:This is the kind of failed logic that has saddled myself and my parents with much debt (not saying I'm "brilliant", but when you're 17 you want to go to the best school you can, not whichever crappy school has offered you a full ride, housing and stipend)vexion wrote:This is ridiculous FUD. 2) On that note though, if your kid has some starry-eyed notion of an Ivy League law school, she shouldn't go to the best college she should get into. She should go to the cheapest one where she can get a 4.0.

when i was 17 i wanted that too. then i took a gap year and was like, wait, UIowa in-state tuition? sign me up. there isn't nearly discussion about the true value of expensive-but-elite UGs.pugalicious wrote:This is the kind of failed logic that has saddled myself and my parents with much debt (not saying I'm "brilliant", but when you're 17 you want to go to the best school you can, not whichever crappy school has offered you a full ride, housing and stipend)

Re: Babies.
Exactly. I don't consider myself brilliant by any stretch, but I went to my local state school on a full ride. I loved it and I got a great education. Even if I hadn't received any scholarship money, in-state tuition would have been something like $8k/yr.IAFG wrote:when i was 17 i wanted that too. then i took a gap year and was like, wait, UIowa in-state tuition? sign me up. there isn't nearly discussion about the true value of expensive-but-elite UGs.pugalicious wrote:This is the kind of failed logic that has saddled myself and my parents with much debt (not saying I'm "brilliant", but when you're 17 you want to go to the best school you can, not whichever crappy school has offered you a full ride, housing and stipend)
What saddles parents with crippling debt is entitled little snowflakes who barely squeak into HYP and then want their parents to foot the $60k/yr, then major in Theology or some crap, pull a 2.5 and wonder why they don't graduate with a job. If my kid were truly brilliant, I would tell them to go to a middle-of-the-road school and be a big fish in a little pond.

Luckily the guy I am with actually likes the prospect of staying home. He jokes that he will raise the kids and play world of warcraft. If that does happen, I will jealous of him.
