As much as I hate law school, I do love it. It's a love/hate thing...

I think a better thread would have been: do you regret becoming a lawyer? I'm not sure how many lawyers are on tls though.

Where's the option for not regretting going to law school generally, but regretting going to the law school one foolishly chose to matriculate at?

9.5. I took .5 off for the curve and bluebooking.

but that's the best part!OperaSoprano wrote:9.5. I took .5 off for the curve and bluebooking.
I'll save the why-imposing-a-curve-is-statistically-insignificant rant for another day.

Agreed. I actually love the curve. I like being ranked and objectified, treated like a valuable but ultimately fungible commodity instead of some whiny liberal with feelings.

I love it because it teaches whiny liberals with feelings (of which there are plenty in law school) that they're not special.solidsnake wrote:Agreed. I actually love the curve. Yes, there is something so satisfying when you see that spark in their eyes go dim at the moment they realize mommy lied to them for all those years.rayiner wrote:I love it because it teaches whiny liberals with feelings (of which there are plenty in law school) that they're not special.solidsnake wrote:Agreed. Heh, one kid walked out of EVERY final thirty minutes early with a smug grin on his face. This semester, he hasn't said a word and looks very morose almost constantly.rayiner wrote:I love it because it teaches whiny liberals with feelings (of which there are plenty in law school) that they're not special.

As an 0L, I find the poll results very encouraging. I hope that the poll voters are a somewhat representative sample of students at top law schools.

I regret not having any other reasonable options BUT to go to law school. Where's my poll option?

I have to admit, I am a little surprised by how many of my classmates tell me that they aren't really interested in the material we are covering. So far I have liked everything except ConLaw 1. Some people say things like "Oh I am just doing dual JD/PhD" and I don't really like this stuff.

I'm considering dual JD/MBA program; with my current CFA certification and a seasonal guaranteed job in the financial industry, I figure that I can turn this into something a bit more marketable.

Re: Poll: Do you regret going to law school
I honestly feel like going to law school was the worst decision I have made in my life. In fact, I'm still at the hyperbolic 'this decision has ruined at least my 20s' point in the process of dealing with having made the decision. If it weren't for the debt, I would be back home.

Re: Poll: Do you regret going to law school
I find myself disliking law school more than I expected. I would say nearly all my friends have this same mentality. I'm not interested in probably 90% of the material we cover. I took several pre-law-ish classes in undergrad and really enjoyed the material there, so I assumed this interest would carry over to law school. Not so! Also, I'm just tired of having "homework" all the time. Maybe this doesn't make any sense, but I went straight from UG to law school and I'm sick of always having some stupid work hanging over my head when I go home, and it never seems to end. I think my problem is that with the block scheduling and section system, it feels more like high school than UG. This is annoying.
But I still don't regret going, I don't think. I do enjoy that other 10%, I've met some awesome people, and it doesn't hurt that I did quite well first semester. I realize that 1L classes are not representative of the actual work done in the legal world, and I'm still pretty sure I still want to be a lawyer (though a different lawyer than I had originally planned!). If I end up hating my job, should I be lucky to get one, then I'll revisit my decision to go to law school.

Law school is just fine. The month and a half before finals suck balls though.
