Professor didn't see half my exam?
Hi guys,
I'm a 1L at a 40-50th ranked school with a high media GPA (take a guess haha) and did relatively well this semester, an A in contracts and an A- in civpro. I got my torts grade back today and saw that it was a C. Strangely, the rest of the class got it back 24 hours before me. I would usually just chalk this up to the subjectivity of the grading and the fact that my professor was a ****, but I can't help but wondering if he didn't see the handwritten part of my exam. The exam was split into two questions--60% and 40%--and my computer died after I finished the first one, so I had to handwrite the second part unfortunately.
Do you think there's a chance he simply looked at the typed portion, didn't see the written part worth 40%, and with the generous curve I ended up with a C? I asked the registrar to look into it, as the professor was just visiting for the semester and is now back at his home school. Has anyone ever heard of this happening? I know it's a long shot but I'm just trying to maintain some optimism, as a 3.2 overall gpa at my school is bottom 20%.

Why don't you just ask the professor to look over the exam with you?

Send an email and ask if he saw the second half of your exam.funkyfood1 wrote:reading comp ftwfunkyfood1 wrote:I asked the registrar to look into it, as the professor was just visiting for the semester and is now back at his home school.

Don't you think a professor would remember she/he saw an exam with only half of the exam answered?

thats the idea. let's say he did...and finds the handwritten part laying in a stack of papers. now he can't grade the hand-written part fairly because he knows who wrote it.Wahoo1L wrote:Don't you think a professor would remember she/he saw an exam with only half of the exam answered?

I think we have a mandatory 2.9 median in each of courses... i'm not sure how that translates to overall GPA but even if 50% of the class was getting above a 3.2 I would think about killing self. Where do you go to school?funkyfood1 wrote:eh actually its only top 55% percent...i was looking at the curve after 3 years:

it's a possibility, but i'm going to let the registrar handle it first. i was just wondering if anyone else had heard of something like this happeningWahoo1L wrote:Create another email address and ask?funkyfood1 wrote:thats the idea. let's say he did...and finds the handwritten part laying in a stack of papers. now he can't grade the hand-written part fairly because he knows who wrote it.Wahoo1L wrote:Don't you think a professor would remember she/he saw an exam with only half of the exam answered?

Roman's final was a crap shoot. It's worth trying to follow up on this because he told our section that the only way he would ever change a grade is because of a potential oversight like this one. If you feel confident that the only way you could have ended up with this grade is through error, just hound the registrar until they at least go through the motions.
PM me if you want to bitch about the prof.
