NYU --> Harvard/Columbia Transfer?
Hi, I just got the NYU acceptance letter in the mail...which is great news. However, I would really like to do a PHD program in East Asian studies, which is the best at Harvard, Columbia, and Berkeley.
Lets say that in the first year of law school i apply to a MA/PHD program at Harvard or Columbia and get accepted, and I have decent grades at NYU law school, would it be feasible to transfer into a joint JD/PHD program at Harvard or Columbia?
While NYU is incredible in terms of corporate law, its East Asian programs are somewhat limited, my primary interest would be east asia, both in theory and practice. I also grew up in the region, would all this be a legitimate reason to apply as a transfer student?
I got 172 on the lsat...
many many thanks to you guys!

If you're top 1/3 at NYU I'd say there's no reason why they wouldn't take you. I think the most important thing would be to express why you're going up from a T5, but I think you have a very legitimate reason that the schools will like.
And congrats!

I'm going to assume it's a good one if OP got into NYU. It won't matter anyway when it comes to transferring. They'll want to see OP's 1L grades.mikegt40 wrote:GPA...?

Transferring to CLS should be quite easy--Harvard will be another matter.

I don't know too much about joint PHD/JD programs but would it at all be feasible to study concurrently at NYU and Columbia?

Re: NYU --> Harvard/Columbia Transfer?
gpa was a 3.7, and 4.0 in last two years of UG...if I do a PHD program, Harvard has the best in Chinese/Japanese politics, which I want to do...so for those who said Harvard would be a completely different matter, could you please clarify?
many grateful thanks!
