Transfer options after S1 grades: GULC EA, BC EA, UofC ED?

Post by lawyer180 » Wed Jan 13, 2010 1:36 am

Congrats to everyone who finished their first semester! I did A LOT better than I expected:

3.6 (Top 10%) from a 50-60's ranked school.

I've perused a majority of the really popular threads (including FAQ's and Yahoo Transfer Apps) about transferring; however, I wanted to get a better feel specifically re: the EA programs and if anyone has transferred successfully, or unsuccessfully, from a lower T1/T2. If anyone has transferred successfully in the past, or has any info (or speculation) on the transfer probabilities into any of these EA programs (that cannot be found on their website) it would be much appreciated!

Thanks -

apply to UChi ED (which you probably won't get), then if you improve a bit, apply to HYSCCN after second semester. I think xfer to any school outside that group from a 50-60 school in which you would probably on law review is not smart. Transfers get screwed in OCI.

I applied ED at UChicago (top 5%, school ranked around 60), they held my app, my grades went up slightly (top 3%) and they let me in with the RD group. There were other people ranked higher than me who applied only RD who were not accepted. (They didn't get into HYS either). You almost certainly will not make the cut for an ED acceptance at UChicago, but it may be seen as a a sign that you really want to study there which may help.

You probably have a decent shot at GULC ED, but you probably know that already because there's plenty of data on the yahoogroup for GULC ED.

Upgrade: That's awesome! Did you have any special softs or did you apply anywhere else? e.g. GULC EA?

Yeah, I'm def throwing an EA app at GULC, even though I'm skeptical as to whether or not I'd be admitted. I'd also definitely consider BC EA. I feel pretty good about my grades and am somewhat confident about this semester as well, but there's always that self-doubt that makes you think it may have been a fluke :/

Thanks for the info guys!

Nothing special. I sent 2 letters of recommendation with my ED app and 2 more with a LOCI to supplement my original app, all from 1L professors. I applied to schools 4-10 and was rejected by only UVA and Boalt.
