Haha congrats bro. I'm kind of pissed that they didn't give A+ for Prop too. I'm glad they finally put up the rest of the awards though!fatduck wrote:i know this is a shitty thing to bitch about, but if i'd got A+'s instead of A's in the two classes i booked, i'd almost certainly be #1 in my class. fuck.

award for best exam in a class. a lot of schools call them CALI awards. not sure what the etymology of "booked" is.3|ink wrote:What does "booked" mean?fatduck wrote:i know this is a shitty thing to bitch about, but if i'd got A+'s instead of A's in the two classes i booked, i'd almost certainly be #1 in my class. fuck.

A friend told me that professors used to give the top student a new copy of the casebook with something written inside of it. Not sure if that's true, but would explain "booking."fatduck wrote:award for best exam in a class. a lot of schools call them CALI awards. not sure what the etymology of "booked" is.3|ink wrote:What does "booked" mean?fatduck wrote:i know this is a shitty thing to bitch about, but if i'd got A+'s instead of A's in the two classes i booked, i'd almost certainly be #1 in my class. fuck.

However, admitting to books awards one can infer that the person probably does not go to a very elite school (I only think S does book awards in the T13?). So, being number one versus like number five in the class at a TTT or TTTT could make a huge difference for transferring, so I can kind of understand where he could be coming from.

LOL. In that case I have no sympathy for his fifth in the class or whatever versus first in the class whining.FeelTheHeat wrote:He goes to a great school.lawyerwannabe wrote:+1.FeelTheHeat wrote:tbf, that was an indefensibly douchey post from fatduckdelusional wrote:Wow, this thread went downhill in a hurry.

HLS gives "book prizes" but doesn't call them that. Although there is usually a couple per class I think, not sure if other schools limit it to the top person in that class.lawyerwannabe wrote:+1.FeelTheHeat wrote:tbf, that was an indefensibly douchey post from fatduckdelusional wrote:Wow, this thread went downhill in a hurry.

A DS? Not a book prize. Can't they give out like 5 percent? My reference was specifically to schools who call the top honor a "book price." At Duke, at most five percent of the class can receive an A+ (4.1-4.3). However, the professor does not need to give out any A+s and the person who receives the highest grade in the class doesn't receive a "book prize," their accomplishment is simply recognized by the professor through either an e-mail or a phone call.ph14 wrote:HLS gives "book prizes" but doesn't call them that. at UT we call it a Dean's Achievement Award. It's just a piece of paper.
