I remember in UG, there was a guy who missed the deadline for a paper because he said he got a flat tire. The first thing the professor did was ask him to show him the save file for the document. It seems like it would be pretty easy to prove, but I guess in an email file the save file time stamp wouldn't show.
/guy took an incomplete for the semester

Anyone else hoping OP's friend also posts on TLS and happens to click on this thread? I am waiting patiently for an epic flame war. Or if not, perhaps OP can report back on the friendship fallout inevitable from posting this topic on a public forum for law students?

Nah, I think her friend is probably one of the outraged TLSers that told her not to tattle because their future interest depend upon it, lol!
Still trying to figure out what a Chinese wall is...

Probably a play on this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chinese_wall. May be a terrible metaphor. I am imaging a kitchen table separated by a prison visit-styled wall that requires a phone to speak to the other side.

I pictured it something more along the lines of a bedsheet that divides the room into two seperate but equal forts.

Here's a hint: firms use Chinese walls to control information flow - it's a very common term. I guess OP knows more about working at law firms than her question would suggest; maybe she was a paralegal or maybe she is a third year.
I agree - OP and her friend should not have been doing the exam together. That looks much worse than OP's "friend" saying that she submitted late and benefitted from the issue with submission of the exams.
I am not sure the friend was cheating. If she submitted late, she would have to take the consequences; she just kept working until she finished. The friend (and others who took the exam and submitted late) just got a lucky break.

What made this wall "Chinese"? You mean a divider between you two? Why are dividers Chinese? Was it yellow and you're just racist?
Best thing to do in this scenario is to leave your laptop open with your friend around with this thread open... yawn, get up from your desk and ask the person if they could look at your paper open on your comp - they see the thread - voila, conversation started about how you're racist.

Oy. No, don't tell. If it bothers you, say something to your friend.
Shitty, though, sure. Fine to be pissed about it. But, as others have said: You probably shouldn't have been doing the exam with someone else anyway...Nothing good will come of it for you if you tell.

If the prof didn't want you to cheat he wouldn't have made it a take home exam.

How did she "cheat"? Sounds like she got a lucky break. I'm not sure I'd describe that as cheating. Sometimes life isn't fair.

I can't believe more people aren't OUTRAGED about this. That was the friend's real crime: caring enough to cheat as a 3L.

Some law students just can't give up the fight. The type A was so much a part of them before law school that no amount of no longer being a 1L can rid the taint from their bodies.

Meh, I don't know. If your professor would actually care about the fact that someone did take that extra 45 minutes to write their exam then it is unquestionably cheating, and it wasn't exactly a trivial amount of cheating either apparently.
I'm actually shocked this consensus is so far in favor of "if you do tell the professor you are scum of the earth."
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
Now there's a charge.
