Well, I haven't received my grades yet. With that caveat, however...
Things I'm not changing:
I'm still not going to brief cases. It is a colossal waste of time.
I'm still not going to get involved with a study group (aka breeze-shooting, time-wasting group) until late in the semester, when the group will actually be studying.
I'm still going to read cases closely, highlighting to high heaven.
I'm still going to take Sundays off from school completely.
I'm still going to read my Civ Pro hornbook recommended readings.
Things I am changing:
I plan to outline at each "stopping point" in each class (in the Farnsworth Contracts casebook, for instance, this would be at the end of each chapter). I may also, at each stopping point, make the flash cards I will use later in the semester to force myself to recall BLL. This worked surprisingly well in the fall semester, with help from my spouse.
I will take fewer, but more relevant, class notes. My class notes from the first month or so of class were pretty useless, because I had no idea what I was doing or what was relevant information. I may decide to take notes directly into my outline, but as of now, I'm not sure.
I will get ahead as far as I can in the readings. Our graded LRW is a pain, assignments come due with shocking speed and frequency, and juggling class readings and a LRW deadline is a recipe for chaos and disaster. However, it's not possible to do the whole semester's reading at once, because my professors only give assignments a week or two in advance and skip around in the casebooks.
I will focus less on LRW because I naturally do well in it, it has a tendency to gobble up time that belongs to other pursuits, and it is not worth as much to my GPA as my other courses.
I will eat better. This means a snack and lunch from home at school every day. I gained probably 10 pounds in the fall semester. Chips and dip, pizza, and ramen noodles are easy, but weight loss is not. Also, I feel like my brain works better when I'm eating, you know, vegetables.
In the same vein, I plan to exercise more and take a multivitamin every day.
I plan to start volunteering. Now that I have a clue about school, I'm not as scared about giving some of my time to something.
I plan to socialize/network more. This has been difficult for me because I don't drink, smoke, do drugs, etc. I'm not comfortable with the let's-go-out-and-get-drunk atmosphere that seems to pervade our school. Many of the fresh out of ugrad folks still seem to be in frat party mode, and that's fine for them...but I'm kind of over it, and I know I'm not the only one
(others have expressed the same kind of frustration with it). Still on the lookout for solutions to this one.
