I'm looking at Lenovo.com. . .they have a sale and a 10% off sale price coupon.

I know it is because of the options, none of the retail sites sell with the higher RAM and hard drive.

With the Professional version of Windows, wouldn't it be better to have a better processor (i5) and more memory?

The price Lenovo charges for Office is horrible ($145) so I actually took that off and the price got a bit better.

I just don't want to get the i3 that retail and bargain sites seem to have :(

i.e. first result = http://www.mydealspy.com/deals.php?deal=257581 you could argue that yours is a little more optioned-out, but it seems like you are getting robbed for the options you chose.

where are you looking at buying from?
On-site warranty.

Thinkpads are terribly heavy. This is what you should go with instead. The keyboard is also far better so you can type fast on exams. It only weighs 3.2 lbs.

The difference in weight is negligible. I'd go with the better laptop

SSD is definitely worth it. I'm probably going MacBook Air if the refresh is out in time.

He's asking about an SSD as an option.. not as the only option.

Go to page 26 or so, there's a huge screaming fight over whether SSD is worth the $$ or not.

It's worth it.

Just ordered my 13" Macbook Pro. Disappointed with the Back to School sale this year, since I really would have liked a new iPod, but whatever.

T420. 12.5 is too small for me.

the T420 is like:

i3 2.1ghz processor
2GB ram
320GB HD
14" screen (1366x768)
weighs ~4.5 lbs
cost: $700ish (or $1k with an i5)

X220:
same thing with i5 processor and 12.5" screen (same resolution), weighs like 2.5 lbs, $800, longer battery life

or for $1k i can get the T420s, same specs, but a 14" screen @ 1600x900, and it's lighter, but i've heard the battery life blows

Are you going to upgrade anything? If I were you I'd get the X220 for the weight and battery, especially since you're fine with your current 13" macbook.

I agree. I have a 15" and, while I won't say I regret it, I wish I had more seriously considered the 13

If 13'' works for you, then 12.5 should be fine too yeah. It's more of the type issue because there's less room to rest your palm on the smaller models. But I also have huge ass hands.

yea i think 13" is nice. i'm sure i'd be cool with 12.5", it's just that 14" @ 1600x900 is really tempting. do any big box retailers stock lenovos? i've never seen them at best buy, but it'd be nice to play around with one before i order.

i had read about the small palmrests, but i actually don't rest my palms on my keyboard (my typing technique is uniquely terrible)

Prefacing this by saying I don't give a shit about battery life (considering there are a plethora of outlets at most law schools), I love the resolution of the behemoth I carry around now (15.4" Dell, 1920x1200, makes it feasible to have two documents up side by side), and 2 pounds seems generally inconsequential to me (granted I probably weigh double what you weigh :P).

I'd probably go with the T420 for the larger screen (though the resolution is meh). If you care about size/weight get the X220 but I would personally prefer the larger size over less weight/longer battery/better processor.

I like how the keyboard slowly slides across the desk while you type.
