Re: 1L Fall Grade Waiting Thread
Got all of my grades in today, in rapid succession. 3.44 GPA for 1L. I am happy about my A's, but from snooping around looking for curves, 3.44 isn't that good compared to the curve. Am I just freaking out?

Not really good with the extrapolating, what-combos-would-be-higher-than-mine situations. But here is the curve.NYC Law wrote:Can't say without knowing what the curve is.VTOrange19 wrote:Got all of my grades in today, in rapid succession. 3.44 GPA for 1L. uh 3.44 puts you probably in the top 5% or higher depending on how many classes?VTOrange19 wrote:Not really good with the extrapolating, what-combos-would-be-higher-than-mine situations. thats actually probably not correct no matter how many classes he/she tookD'Angelo wrote:uh 3.44 puts you probably in the top 5% or higher depending on how many classes?VTOrange19 wrote:Not really good with the extrapolating, what-combos-would-be-higher-than-mine situations. this curve looks like a 2.3 (C/C+) curve...3.44 is a B+/A- average...

Re: 1L Fall Grade Waiting Thread
That just looks like the grade distribution per class, but more info is needed about what the median gpa for the school is or some of the rank cut-offs. Try googling for it to see if you can find it for your school.VTOrange19 wrote:Not really good with the extrapolating, what-combos-would-be-higher-than-mine situations. But that is a really harsh curve, so you're probably fairly highly ranked.
Perspective: At my school 2-8% gets C range grades, and no one has to get below that, and you'd still be top 18% here. So def within top 10%, probably higher.

wtf, if that's your curve, and you got a 3.44, then yes you are freaking out needlessly.

First grade back today. B+ in Civ Pro. Not happy with it but it could have been worse I suppose. And the waiting continues.
I think it will be worse now that I have one grade. When I didn't have any I could just sit back, now it feels different for some reason.

This is so true. I wish I hadn't looked when the first came in, but had waited for all of them. I can't focus on anything else right now...theavrock wrote:First grade back today. B+ in Civ Pro. Not happy with it but it could have been worse I suppose. And the waiting continues.

Had a dream that I got two As and two Bs, but in my dream it equaled a 3.81 and top 10% of the class. At least my subconscious is unrealistically optimistic I suppose...

First substantive class grade in! Torts: A! No A+'s were given, only 5 A's out of 70 people... so I have a good feeling about the rest considering I felt the worst about that exam!

Re: 1L Fall Grade Waiting Thread
UGH. This whole grade checking thing is sickeningly reminiscent of the status checkers from the application cycle.
Except now I understand that this is actually far more important than getting accepted to one school versus another.
