Re: Pennoyer: irrational fears of 1Ls who did well last semester
So far, my fears are horrifically rational. My GPA has dropped .08 and if it wasn't for a God-send LRW grade I'd be looking at dropping out of the top 10. I have two more grades to go. If they are not great, I'm looking at a very precarious situation indeed.

LRW: It wasn't what I wanted, but it was not the very worst it could have been. To be honest, I was expecting utter and complete carnage and destruction. This was only partial carnage and destruction, magnified because I only have three grades, full stop. A strange thing happened to me, though. I had to get the grade in person, so I did it during my lunch hour at my internship. After spending a good part of the day sitting in on meetings with our clients, it didn't upset me the way I thought it would. I recall feeling a bit sad, then realizing I had to finish research so my supervising attorney would have what she needed for a client who relied on our services. I could certainly not luxuriate in woe, but I could be useful, so I smiled at our clients and attorneys as they passed, and shoved the fear down where it couldn't get out again. It had better stay there, because I have so much else to be happy about that I refuse to let one letter take away from me.

2 things: (1) This is a refreshing side of you. (2) It's only one grade, and it probably is the least representative of other 1L grades. You have so few at this point anyway. Keep doing what you're doing in the doctrinal classes and you'll do fine.OperaSoprano wrote:LRW: It wasn't what I wanted, but it was not the very worst it could have been. Thanks. Someone told me recently that I'll succeed either because of my grades or in spite of them. It's a good thing to believe, on a fundamental level, but before today, you could've given me a 4.3 and I'd have found some way to disparage myself. My GPA is lower, but I think I'm done doing that. Finis, and back to all the leisure reading I put off for half of forever.doyleoil wrote:2 things: (1) This is a refreshing side of you. Tis' better to succeed in spite of them as it builds character, rather than just because of them, grades can only take you so far after law school, it's up to you alone at some point in the real world. So long as you don't let your grades determine your life's coarse, good or bad, then you'll be OK. No one is going to come to you for legal advice in 4 years because you got an A in contracts, they are going to come to because you have a rep for being good at actual contract work regardless of what your grade was on a 3 hour issue spotting exam in 1L.OperaSoprano wrote:Thanks. Haha what?? That's not an incorrect usage. I actually walked out thinking "I'm glad they don't give F's in law school."

"Literally bombed" implies you were dropped out of an airplane and exploded on impact.MrKappus wrote:Haha what?? That's not an incorrect usage. I actually walked out thinking "I'm glad they don't give F's in law school."

Respectfully disagree, there were a lot of law students who had to hike over to the silo coffee shop that morning, I think it was successful sabotage. (edit - omg i just remembered the smell as well...disgusting)prezidentv8 wrote:Attempt to "Bomb" torts final --> Accidentally Bomb coffee hut --> ??? --> FAIL.eth3n wrote:--ImageRemoved--

Know what? Me too. Everyone should have something like this, that makes them feel amazing and proud and happy whenever they think about it. Otherwise, the grade paranoia will take over, and we are so much more than a handful of numbers. The people who really know us see that.IzziesGal wrote:I'm loving this.OperaSoprano wrote:

Re: Pennoyer: irrational fears of 1Ls who did well last semester
There was a T25 school that I tried really hard to get into off the waitlist last year. I kind of finally did at the last minute, but it was too late to go.
However, I received an e-mail from them today about transferring there.
I really wanted to respond with the following: "Hello! I am sorry to inform you but I have decided not to offer you my enrollment at your school at this time. However, I will update your file and keep you in mind over the summer. If anything else changes, let me know and please keep in contact throughout the summer to let me know your interest. I do not rank my waitlist, but I'll be honest with you: there are a lot of really competitive candidates this year, and I simply cannot go to every law school. Enjoy your summer!"

lol ok how is this for cruel:
our con law prof (the one class im terrified the most of how i did in) put up the raw score of our exams on blackboard... but didn't tell us median, mean, average or anything. no indication of letter grades. i refuse to look at it, but many others have and they are having heart attacks.
