Re: Thread Unworthy 1L fears, inquiries, and rants welcome here
Kind of, but not quite as polished. I'm printing them to PDF from within WL division/chapter by division/chapter. Also, the FRCP is freely downloadable (e.g. from http://www.law.cornell.edu/rules/frcp/). The Restatements are not and a bound set from ALI is not cheap. And the Restatements are just an example--there's a lot of extremely expensive stuff made available to law students that can be downloaded to PDF for local archiving.

Can someone tell me what [C] or [Cc] means? I've seen it in a few cases embedded between sentences.

New strategy - self imposed deadlines. It is too easy to slack off when nothing is ever really "due." Gotta try and get some shit done this weekend.

Dunno, nothing in the bluebook, but it's probably related to editing.omnomnom wrote:Can someone tell me what [C] or [Cc] means? I've seen it in a few cases embedded between sentences.

Saturday, with its marquee football matchups, is going to pwn me. Sigh.
Also, to whoever asked, I'm somewhat sure [C] and [Cc] in an edited case means Citation and Citations, respectively

So I can run searches against them locally, and because it makes the DevonThink database as a whole smarter. And because, like I said, bound editions are expensive and you'll find you can't use WL so freely after law school. There are probably more interesting/useful things to be had than the Restatements, but that's where I started.betasteve wrote:TITCQkalvano wrote:Duralex wrote:My hobby this week: downloading the restatements in full text PDF format so I can feed them to my database. TTH--I'm not sure how big my digital media library is in aggregate these days, it's spread out over too many computers and there's a fair amount of duplication. It's a large number.

My prof opened up class today with a quick discussion on hypotheticals. I'm paraphrasing a lot here, but he basically said that he didn't want students to ask hypos. He told us that he has been using his hypotheticals for a long time and he uses them for specific purposes, and that student hypotheticals are generally not useful. He said that the reason he generally doesn't respond to student hypos is because they serve to get us off topic, and he told us that we should think about hypothetical situations on our own in order to learn think like a lawyer.
It was epic, and I was oh-so-glad he did it.

$10 says the first person to raise their hand in this class next time you meet asks a hypo, probably contradicting something the professor said explicitly in today's class, or bringing up something that you won't cover for another 4-6 weeks.romothesavior wrote:My prof opened up class today with a quick discussion on hypotheticals. Dear dude playing solitaire in class today,
First of all, I hope for your sake that your rich parents are paying for law school for you.
Second, you could have plopped the whole stack on the far right (starting with a seven of spades) onto the middle stack (ending with an eight of hearts) but you just... didn't. WHY?????

Yeah, it's tough without deadlines. The only thing that keeps me studying is the desire not to look like a moron when called upon.traehekat wrote:New strategy - self imposed deadlines. It is too easy to slack off when nothing is ever really "due." Gotta try and get some shit done this weekend.

I am guilty of chatting with a couple of people in class, and one of them constantly bitches about the guy who does nothing but check fantasy football in front of him. No notes, nothing.
I like messing with his head and telling him that guy will be #1 in the class and win the fantasy football jackpot.

Thankfully, I have no interest in football, and my contracts professor is brilliant and weird, so I enjoy listening to him.

When posing a hypo yesterday, a kid in my class referred to two of our classmates by their last names (ie Mr. Smith and Ms. Jones). Re: Thread Unworthy 1L fears, inquiries, and rants welcome here
I'm curious what supplements people are using to learn substantive law. I don't really have any books 'keyed' to my criminal law book, for instance. I have an E&E, BARBRI 1L lectures/outlines (BARBRI and GTM were the totality of my 0L prep), and...I guess that's it, really. Criminal law strikes me as very straightforward, and Arrow's example feels right to me. Crime: Elements: Law: Discuss, Repeat as necessary for Common Law/MPC/imaginary hypo statute world.
So, suggestions for supplementing Crim? I've been spending more time on Ks to this point but I'd feel stupid if I end up struggling for hundreds of hours to get an A- in Contracts but blow an easy A- in Crim because I didn't do enough. Sometimes I do the reading and pull one or two concepts out and think, "That's it?" I love Crim hypos, though.

Dressler's Understanding Criminal Law is supposed to be the best supp out there, I just got it... haven't cracked it yet though.

It's required reading for my crim law class. I don't have much in means of comparisons, but it's done a really good job of explaining some of the more convoluted concepts. It's especially helpful if your professor emphasis the MPC.beach_terror wrote:Dressler's Understanding Criminal Law is supposed to be the best supp out there, I just got it... haven't cracked it yet though.

Ours definitely spends more time discussing MPC and policy. I'll check it out, thanks.Richie Tenenbaum wrote:It's required reading for my crim law class. Just started looking at it recently, it's fairly helpful. (My professor does seem to be emphasizing the MPC.)
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
