So basicly if I go to a t-9 school in the fall I would need to finnish in the top 5-10% of my class to have a shot at Harvard?...what if said t-9 school dosent rank?

They can still approximate your rank from prior years. Not a lot of data on T10 to HYS, but I personally know people 5 - 10% at T10s who got dinged at H.

Transferring into H is a different story, you have to be able to get in as a 1L as well, which means your GPA and LSAT should be high enough to get you in as a 1L.

The jury is out on this as well, as pointed out earlier in this thread. There have been H transfers on here that did not have the requisite LSAT scores. A poster earlier in this thread pointed out that the language on H's website is probably just a proxy for "we don't take transfers from dump schools." After some thought, I think that's probably accurate.

Ya, the lack of data makes it hard. on the UG numbers front I think my numbers are "admittable" numbers for H, but I'm not getting in so i thought this was an option but top 5% seems like a pipe dream...looks like I'll never be legally blond, boo

2 questions:

1. Law school transcripts: do i ask my law school to send it to LSAC directly? or to each school?

2. Dean's letter: some schools have a form under their supplemental forms... but some don't. What to do then?

Depends when it needs to arrive and school's policies. I believe most schools accept law school transcripts through LSAC, but some may not.

2. Dean's letter: some schools have a form under their supplemental forms... but some don't. What to do then?

Most schools have instructions on what to do. If they don't provide a form, the Dean's assistant will likely have to write a letter stating you are in good standing.

How did you guys who transferred deal with private loans? What did your provider require you to do and was it workable that late in the game before 2L starts? If you find out whether you're in around July, can all the paperwork be processed (considering deadlines and such) by the time school starts?

Private loans were no biggie for me. I had to bust-a-move to get them all in, though. Mich wanted like seven years of tax returns from me to prove that I wasn't living off my parents. (lol wut?)

I'm from Ithaca, and I'm not shoveling my mom's driveway while I'm in law school. She's needy. Too bad because the Cornell TLS crew is a-some.

Columbia got back to me really late and I'm not sure if my wife would have gotten in. Michigan was just a better fit. Moving to NYC in that compressed of a time period could have been disastrous.

Did I read correctly that it's tougher to transfer from a part-time program?

Also, any idea what level school you have to attend to realistically be able to transfer to T1? (It seems what institution your at would have to mean quite a bit, along with your rank there)

If you are in the top 15% you are also in the top 25%. I hope I misunderstood your question, though.

I am not PK and I don't know if you would want to read my opinion, but I think, when Duke says that they consider 25%, they are probably referring to candidates from higher ranked schools (like top 25). I know that they don't explicitly state this, but considering the fact that Duke only accept about 20 people every year out of probably more than 100 applicants, it is difficult to imagine a top 15%-25% student from a T2 having any substantial chance of success unless that student has an amazing soft factor (maybe Duke under-grad degree [yahoo transferapp database shows that there are some T2 Cornell Ugrads that transferred to Cornell law with top 15-25% GPA], a valid reason to transfer to Duke and live in NC, etc...).

I guess one can always apply and find out.

For clarity: generally speaking duke says they consider someone who is 25%, now would that change as you go down the list of schools in order of rank...

for example, top 25% at lets say fordham would have a shot
but would that number change if it were from St. Johns? (to 15%?)

PK, I know you owned Columbia last year, but their transfer requirements are kind of intimidating. Looking at their site, what are a "Biographical Information Sheet" and a "Personal Profile Sheet"?
