Why are people talking about typing speed and how many words they typed on their final? I just finished my finals and only had 1 essay component in K but the rest of the classes were multiple choice/true-false.
Do professors really care about how many words you type?

It may or may not matter.hennenr wrote:Why are people talking about typing speed and how many words they typed on their final? I just finished my finals and only had 1 essay component in K but the rest of the classes were multiple choice/true-false.

I mean, for me, I think it helps me personally asses things like how often I had to look at the outline (meaning I didn't know the material by rote) which means that I wasn't able to use that time for adding analysis or grabbing another issue.
Additionally, sometimes typing speed can be a bottle neck.
In a race where there are no slouches, we tend to look for whatever advantage (spurious perhaps) we can get. We all need something to hold on to while our exams enter the black box of grading as well.

it doesn't matter at all if your a good writer and can say things concisely. However, for most law students that isn't the case so being able to spew out as much analysis helps on a racehorse exam. At least I think it does. That's weird that you only had one essay. I only had one test that was somewhat multiple choice.hennenr wrote:Why are people talking about typing speed and how many words they typed on their final? The weirdest thing about law school is how I both simultaneously want everyone to do well, but for me to do better.

Depends on the school man. At mine, I have heard of people not having all their grades till Februarygaud wrote:when are grades typically released?

Yeah. Mine says grades are due a month after the final and they post them when they get them for 2Ls and 3Ls but they're releasing 1L grades over a 3 day period in January (I think its like the 24th-26th or something).AssumptionRequired wrote:Depends on the school man. More words = more arguments = more points = better grades = better jobs = more money = more problemshennenr wrote:Why are people talking about typing speed and how many words they typed on their final? But for someone that can only type say 40 words a minute, then they are severely disadvantaged to those who can type 90 wpm

I have no idea how I did to be honest. I cranked out 4800 words in two hours in Crim, some dude apparently cranked out 7k, so everyone I'm guessing went full word bomb. I hit everything relevant, so we'll see.
Contracts, I felt was too easy, and I don't mean in the sense that "I killed it." More in the sense that this was his second year teaching the course, his first exam was too difficult for the time allotted, so this year he basically overcompensated. As I said, not really sure where I am at right now.
Have Con law Tuesday. Basically a two hour race to see who can run through Commerce Clause, Substantive Due Process, Equal Protection, and Anti-Commandeering out as soon as possible. I also feel so so on this class. Basically, my large section is gunner as fuck which is saying something because I thought I had been gunning all semester and the answer is apparently no.

Got one grade back.
It's a year long course, and we don't get an official grade until the end. So, he sent us the section's point spread, and we could email his secretary for how many points we got. It's so nice knowing how I did on an exam.
Won't get the other four back until mid-Jan, though, sadly.

Same man, same. Well... I'm moderately confident I've avoided B-'s on the 2 exams I've taken so far but beyond that, I have no idea.AssumptionRequired wrote:I may be to scared to look when they do come out. I mean, I will be severely disappointed if I get a B- on one of those I have taken, but the thing is, you never know. Because in the end, its all about how the others did. An answer one year could be a B- while the next its a B+SportsFan wrote:Same man, same. Well... Not a single person I have talked to said they thought they did poorly on the 2 so far, but about 30% had to have lol

Hah very true. Definitely agree. Though is it really 30% that get B-'s at your school? Its only 20% at mine, AFAIK.AssumptionRequired wrote:I mean, I will be severely disappointed if I get a B- on one of those I have taken, but the thing is, you never know. Re: PANIC!! 1L Fall Grade Waiting Thread - 2012
I felt sort of decent walking out of both of my exams. I then talked to my class mates about it, and now I'm in panic mode thinking, "Wow, didn't see that issue." Or, "Did I use the wrong rule?" Or, "Did I spend too much time on that question?"
I never got nervous about exam performance in undergrad, but now, the second after I turn it in, I think of 50 different things I could have done.
It is not cool.

don't worry about it, they missed issues too.ltp93 wrote:I felt sort of decent walking out of both of my exams. If you think you spotted every issue, you're in trouble, because you didn't even think of some of them.

Best issue spotting story ever:
Our civ pro exam had an issue about [name of issue omitted to prevent 1L panic]. That's just what the question was -- all of it -- about one particular thing. The prof was talking to somebody afterward and said only half the class even figured out what it was about
