Gotta imagine. I see partners who still have that on their firm bios. The question is how much it helps relative to what it costs. The only honor we give out at UVA is Coif, and fuck if I want to shoot for that.f0bolous wrote:Is there any benefit to graduating "with honors"? like, for lateral options or future job searches?

A hiring partner at a V100 told me that honors are a big deal because that will stay on your resume for life and without checking any other info someone looking at your resume will see it first. He said the students that are really screwed are the ones who graduate just below honors cause there really is not difference between a 3.1 and a 3.3 (at least he said to him there is no difference when he checks resumes).

I think this is a bit overstated. Honors are certainly a good thing, but after 5 years of practice, your professional body of work had better eclipse your law school honors in terms of importance on your resume. If not, your career is going to be in trouble even if you have a bunch of fancy latin words on your degree.BarbellDreams wrote:A hiring partner at a V100 told me that honors are a big deal because that will stay on your resume for life and without checking any other info someone looking at your resume will see it first. I completely agree, but 5 years down if you dont have a job you're screwed anyway. For looking for your first couple of jobs honors matter, at least IMO.Julio_El_Chavo wrote:I think this is a bit overstated. If you didn't get a job through OCI, EIW, whatever other thing you want to call it, you're TTT.

Evidence grade came in 2 days ago, and I do not have the confidence to check it yet. Maybe when I've had a couple shots of tequila. I don't care how many years I'm in lawl skool, checking grades tops my list of things I hate. I put so much unnecessary stress on myself. LOL.

One grade back today. I'm happy enough with it.
A little confused, though, since I've never before seen my school release grades one at a time before.

Re: 2L Spring Grade Waiting Room
I could die of happiness right now.
Wasnt expecting grades until middle of june, randomly saw someones post about doing better than they thought this semester and went to check mine. and omg.
I got an A- in corporations!!! I literally did not type a single thing the first 40 minutes of that exam. I didnt understand what the question was! So I just stared and stared. Finally I decided I shouldnt waste more time and just started with "i am not sure what you are asking here, but I dont want to lose all points for this question, so I am just going to spot issues and discuss them and hopefully I dont lose all credit. I am going to assume xyz" It was a 60 minute question, I spent 40 staring at it, and then went 15 minutes into the second question's time to answer the best i could.
I was seriously bracing myself for a C...and I was like planning on how to come up with extra cash to cover the amount of scholarship money I would lose.
And.....A- in crim pro!
so happy right now. and in total shock.

Re: 2L Spring Grade Waiting Room
Out of curiosity -- how bad would your 2L grades need to be in order to have a firm no-offer you after your SA?
I have a "friend" who transferred from a low level tier 2 school (rank ~ 85) with a GPA of 3.7 or so to a (UCLA, VANDY, UT).
Its now appearing that his grades are going to be about a 3.2 for the 2L year. How bad will this hurt for getting a permanent offer, or will it not really matter at all?
I'm sure this is covered somewhere else, but I thought this was appropriate since my "friend" is still waiting for a few more grades to come in.

Also, been 38 days since my first and 2nd exam. I want two of my grades, and really really really don't want the other two.

Got a B+ in the class I was most worried about. Didn't do so hot in the other two I was more confident in. OCFLS.

thats how i started the answer to the first question---telling the professor i have no idea what she was asking and that at this point, my goal was to not lose all credit for a 60 minute question so I was just going to spot issues and talk abt them without regard to the specific question she asked [because i could not understand what that question was]. I was praying for median, but was convinced that wasnt reasonable and had started telling myself one C on my transcript wouldnt be "that" bad. and so what if i lose my scholarship for 3L...i wouldnt lose all of it, probably just 20%..and thats what? 8500.---i literally spent the past two weeks coming to ends with the reality that i'd be losing 20% of my scholarship after my corporations grade. I have never felt THAT horrible after any exam. especially when everyone else was saying how easy it was.

So graduation was a week ago which means they all already got their grades for their classes. Is it weird that grades for my classes that had a lot of graduating 3L's aren't up yet? What would be the hold up?

At my school, professors only had to submit grades for graduating 3L's, and some didn't do the 2L grades until later on.CindyLarson84 wrote:So graduation was a week ago which means they all already got their grades for their classes.
