LWR should be more than 2 or 3 units and more than 1 semester. Substantive classes should be less filler and more like bar-review courses.

I enjoy the vacations, being able to learn for the sake of learning, and not doing jack shit when I don't want to. Exams suck, but it's nice not having any professional responsibilities. It's not so good not having money any more, and I'd like to get hundres of dollars per hour to do what LPW makes me do for free.

+1. I liked 1L, but honestly I'm just looking forward to working at this point and it's a lot harder for me to get motivated this year.beach_terror wrote:Should just be a year long, 3 years is fucking ridiculous.
That said, I like my classes better this semester than last semester.

I like law school. Classwise and all? No, not really. They're boring, teachers take an hour to teach what could be taught in 5 minutes via hypos etc. But I've met some damn cool people and go out 3-5 nights a week while still doing fine and all of this beats the shit out of the jobs I was working before coming here so, in that regard it's a hell of a lot better than I thought it'd be.

So credited. 1L year is alright because it is new, and I actually had some fun. 2L year is like senioritis in college, except there is a whole year of the same useless, mind-numbing shit after this. The thought of doing this year all over again while caring even less is very disheartening.beach_terror wrote:Should just be a year long, 3 years is fucking ridiculous.

I like law school. I couldn't stand it if I didn't enjoy the material though. Would have dropped out by now.

The pedagogy in most legal writing classes could probably use a serious rethinking. I almost wish 3L here were like W&L's. Nevermind whether it's worthwhile or not, it seems a damn sight better than the monotony of a third full year of classes. Med schools do clinical rotations the last two years, why the hell not? I realize that most schools have clinics and externship opportunities, but still.

I enjoy L/S for the most part. Just didn't realize how prevalent douche-baggery was amongst my peers.

Externing (interning, whatever you want to call it) this semester was such a mistake because now all I want to do is fucking work. It's awesome in the sense that I know I picked the right career path, but it sucks because I'm still 1.5 years away from starting and I'll learn nothing particularly meaningful in the meantime.keg411 wrote:+1. what did u used to do? apparently i should take that career path instead of going to law school...HWS08 wrote:That's how I feel too. I like law school, but I do not like being a student. Coming from a poor, uneducated family background living off foodstamps and goodwill, I am more than enjoying law school and the doors it opened for me. Even a bad day at the firm is tons better than where I'd be otherwise.

People that do it because they know they want it will find the best in it and will tell you they enjoy it, though they'll admit that it was hard.
The people that just fell into it seem to loathe it.

+1. I think some people that complain about law school are coming at it from a pretty privileged background. Any time I feel like whining about law school I just remember where my family comes from and that puts things in perspective pretty damn fast

1L here - I enjoy it. I came from an engineering school with <5% female. Law school is about 50% female. So much enjoyment.
Also, I happen to be the first person in my school to land a biglaw job, aside from those people already in one or had prior connections when they entered law school.

Re: anyone enjoying law school?
I've loved law school so far. My first career was as an engineer (~10 years). I find the law to be interesting in a way that I never found engineering to be interesting.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
