I think it also has something to do with the fact that people on here seem to care enough about school to post hundreds and thousands of posts on a Law School related internet forum board. The people who are falling well below median, I'm guessing, either [1] Do not understand the subject matter at all or how to apply it and should not be attorneys, or [2] Do not really seem to care about their school performance as much as others and think of LS as just something their doing from 10am to 4pm.
That said, watch me strike out, pull up well below median and debate dropping out.

I went the other way. I figured, I've done well not trying... let's see what a little trying can get me. I'm hoping the results are favorable.
Oh don't get me wrong... I've definitely put forth more effort in the last three months than in the entirety of my education up to this point. I don't think I've actually studied for something until now. I'm just hoping that what small extra effort I did give will pay off. Probably not. Damn the curve.

My class has gotten our ACTUAL grades back in LRW. Our professor then told us that she'll let us know when our actual grades are put on the curve....

It's almost more painful this way.

I think that qualifies as intentional infliction of emotional distress. Ouch. Why on earth would they let you know that when it really has almost no bearing on your actual grade? It's just going to make everyone want to compare grades with each other and try to estimate where they fall. I'm sorry. I hope you do well!
And I thought it was bad when our prof went over our first memos and told us everything we did wrong and then didn't give out grades for another week...

Hmm just looked at my school's website- is it common to curve upper-level courses differently?
First Year Courses
A+ through A 10%
A- through B 50%
B- through C 35%
C- and below 5%
Other Courses
A through A- 20%
B+ through B- 60%
C+ and below 20%
"The faculty has also adopted a policy recommending that the average grade for each course fall in the range of 2.9 - 3.1"
What the hell does that mean? I realize jokes on me for waiting to figure out how the curve works until now, but huh?

Mines the same way, it's 3.0-3.1 for 1Ls and then it's like 2.9-3.3 or some such for upperclassmen.

While waiting for grades, I just ordered a $10 lexis nexis amex for the bargain price of 767 points.
Get on it... that'll buy like 1.5 frappachinos.

I finished the semester with enough points to get the $100 card. I had a lot of free time in one of my classes and completed all the 400 point quizzes and when they had meetings at school I would sign my name in twice thus earning me double points.
As for the upper class grading scale, they change it here as well. It is based on class size though if its 20 students the median has more fluctuation. 40 Less and then anything over 40 keeps the 1L curve.

Thanks for the well wishes. I understand she wanted to give us back our open memo grades, but why do that before posting the official grade? Just leaves us in more suspense and worry.

Seems to be the trend at FSU right now. The other half of my section got their raw LRW grades back too. I also heard that one of the other sections got their Civ Pro grades back.

Introversional, I read it as fail at first. Lol. On the brain?
I too am unsure. I thought I'd do well prior and because of uncertainty, I'm hoping median. I wont be pleased but I can deal with average and things will happen for me. Below? Still likely but an ego crusher. We are supposed to get grades beginning of January but one of my section mates will be taking the tests in January so I'm preparing to wait until fen. Hopefully it wont be that long. I do certainly feel for those of you who are absolute February receipts. Oh, anticipation.

Yep, exactly. Currently teaching myself civ pro but after my performance on Wednesday I am not optimistic. Median would make me happy right about now.

Do other schools use numbers I hear a lot use letters
WV has a 2.85-2.95 median depending on the year. Top 25% starts around 3.5.

We won't get grades until almost February. Going to be a long wait. Hoping we at least get our LRW grades before then (but I doubt it). My LRW professor is very slow.

The deadline for professor submissions is Jan 11. Not sure if we will likely get many grades before then, but guessing not. Ugh
