Re: Might actually fail the MPRE
I forget, but an 80 is well under median for test takers. These tests often have more than one right answer anyway; that's my theory for why MBE scores are so high (bottom 2% is still like 100 out of 200 points) and the questions so completely impossible (and the same company makes both).Desert Fox wrote:Also, what percent correct do I need to get an 80?
I think the best way to approach problems is "what do the rules permit / require in this context" - leave common sense out of the equation entirely.Desert Fox wrote:Not really. A lot of it is against common sense.traehekat wrote:isn't this shit supposed to be like... common sense?

If you got 30 right, you'd probably wind up with 80+.

Re: Might actually fail the MPRE
Eh, I over-studied for this last year for sure...but there definitely weren't a lot of questions with more than one right answer. For all of the ones that seemed close, there was some little detail that made one right and one wrong.thesealocust wrote:These tests often have more than one right answer anyway.
FTR, I took every BarBri question online and reviewed the wrong ones, and skimmed the outline, and I scored way way higher than I needed to. I surely wasted a lot of time. You definitely don't need to study that much...but pay attention to judicial ethics because those rules aren't super intuitive and they test them heavily.

I actually spent most of the time on judicial ethics, which then didn't get tested at all.

Re: Might actually fail the MPRE
Barbri guide said they are tested 6-10% of the time.dresden doll wrote:I actually spent most of the time on judicial ethics, which then didn't get tested at all.
In terms of highly tested topics, here is what I have:
Regulation of the Legal Profession (8-12%)
Client-Lawyer Relationship (10-14%)
Privilege and Confidentiality (6-10%)
Independent Professional Judgment-Conflicts of Interest (12-16%)
Competence, Legal Malpractice, and Other Civil Liability (8-12%)
Litigation and Other Forms of Advocacy (12-16%)
Different Roles of Lawyers (4-8%)
Safekeeping Property and Funds of Client and Others (4-8%)
Communications About Legal Services (6-10%)
Lawyers and the Legal System (2-6%)
Judicial Ethics (6-10%)
Take that as you will.

Might not be ideal, but all you need to pass the exam: http://www.americanbar.org/groups/profe ... tents.html (plus the judicial rules, which are also definitely online somewhere)

This one is better, as you can see all the rules on one page:thesealocust wrote:Might not be ideal, but all you need to pass the exam: http://www.americanbar.org/groups/profe ... tents.html (plus the judicial rules, which are also definitely online somewhere)

Eh, that's a good number of questions and they aren't intuitive. E.g. can a judge serve on the board of a social organization dedicated to enhancing the legal community. It's only like 5 pages in the BarBri outline...Desert Fox wrote:I'm just going to guess on the judicial rules.thesealocust wrote:Might not be ideal, but all you need to pass the exam: http://www.americanbar.org/groups/profe ... tents.html (plus the judicial rules, which are also definitely online somewhere)

Yep. Whose bright idea is this. Exactly zero law students live anywhere near that testing location.traehekat wrote:You got Englewood too, huh?Desert Fox wrote:My test center is right smack dab in the murdercapital of chicago. Fuuuuuuuck

Re: Might actually fail the MPRE
I thought the Barbri practice tests were a little harder than the exam - which is good; it forced me to be on my game and not at ease. There were a few questions where I was uncertain of what the correct answer was on today's exam, but overall I thought the exam was fair!
When they say 5 weeks, it is it really 5 or more like 4? Do we know when results came out last year for the November exam?

fuuuuuck
i agree that the BarBri questions were harder (for one thing, they took longer to read overall, which sucks up time), but even though i completed 220 of the 240 BarBri practice questions with ~75% accuracy, there was still a lot on the test today that i was unsure about
i'd give myself 50/50 as well

Would it help if I was really unethical and just picked the answer opposite of what I would actually do?
