My professors aren't oblivious at all...to the contrary they acknowledge how difficult out there it is.

The curve doesn't bother me in the slightest. I knew what I was signing up for and I enjoy competition in general...I grew up playing and loving sports so it's not much different.

I only have LRW once a week and there's always a bunch of work to do for it, its only 2 credits and my professor is incredibly intense and intimidating. She spent an entire 15 minute conference ripping me a new one about my practice memo and then was like "you did well," and ended to conference. That and on top of all the reading and studying for other substantive classes, I often forget about LRW work.

Though, the curve is definitely the enemy. I went into my one midterm stressed because while I knew everything and could relate it and explain it properly and adequately, I just felt that wasn't enough. You can't help but look around the room and think "What is it that everyone else is doing? Who do I know I'm doing better than," etc. It makes it unreasonably competitive, especially ITE.

That Torts midterm can save your ass if you owned it and it's worth enough of your grade. It also gives you a decent idea if you "get it" or not (and even if you got an "A", don't be afraid to make adjustments).

Also, tip (specific to RU and class scheduling): do LRW on Fridays after class, but before you go out. It's probably one of the best times to just sit and put the time-sink into research/writing.

The worst part of 1L for me was Thanksgiving until grades came out. I felt like crying pretty much every day.

i really hate that the professors are like certifiably miffed if you forget some rinky dink bullshit detail of a case, especially when you have access to their past exams and it's evident they will not be testing you on cases (or at least not on the procedural history of them, or whether wheat was going for 4.25 or 5.25 a bushel or whatever the fuck)

When I hear a fellow law student make a joke that is (1) related to any law class, and (2) a completely wrong application of a legal principle; it makes me want to strangle everyone in my vicinity.

Most of them think they're hot shit, but barely have a grasp on the material and will cover their lack of knowledge in glossy language for professors. Grates on my last nerve.

It's not confusion or non-intelligence that's the issue. With people in retail or even in the offices I worked in, they were at least real, they never particularly pretended to be more than they were. In law school, it seems to be a mess of competing egos and a slew of near sociopathic characters.

TBF, I could be different. I went to a heavy science and engineering undergrad and all of my friends were computer and electrical engineers, I had a science degree, so now that I'm immersed with poly sci and English people I could be the oddball out.

This could also be the case with me. I was pre-med in college, and I could literally vomit any time someone brings up the slippery slope argument or does some equally lawyerish thing.

To be fair, however, I wouldn't take myself out on a date, either.
