How many people actually do 0L Prep? Forum

I bought Law School Confidential and 1L of a Ride: that shit sucks = straight back to the bookshelf. Law 101 by Feinman: boring as hell = back to the bookshelf. Law in America by Friedman...finished it in 3 hours...pretty interesting. E&E Torts? Get that shit out of my face. The Bramble Bush held my attention and got me thinking, so I finished it.

Other than that, I think I'm just going to read books for fun, e.g. Hot, Flat and Crowded, Post American World, etc. to keep my mind sharp.

I really, really hate how people on this forum act like you can just dick around all semester and luck into an A at the end without significant effort. 0L's read this crap and think they're going to be that special snowflake. It is absolutely horrible advice.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that it's the worst advice that's routinely given on the site. Honestly, I think that watching the paper chase and getting advice from that is better than what you'll get on this site when it comes to the mentality you should have going into law school--and what it's actually like.

I feel that the amount of 0L prep also depends on the schools. I imagine there's more 0L prepping for a T14 than a TTT just based on the amount of effort to even get into a T14 compared to a TTT. I would figure that type of studying and fervor of the admitted would transfer over to their 0L prep.

As for me, read all the "How to excel in 1L" posts on TLS, LSC, GTM, and read a bit of some E&Es. The E&Es are mostly just to get an idea of what it is I'll be perusing on a daily basis a month from now and less for trying to memorize substance.

I suppose what worries me the most is the fact that this is a competition. It's not about how well you do, it's about how well you do relative to the others. Going to a T18, I'm going to guess that the high majority of the kids in my class know this too. Ergo, I'm scared shitless.

Lol, T18. Does this mean we'll be seeing each other at Wash U? Or will you be fortunate enough to be enjoying the SoCal weather?

If the former, my 0L prep could be of interest to you. I'm so bored this summer that I read GTM, did LEEWS and read the Torts E&E, but not because I'm expecting any boost. I'm just flat-out curious about what I'll be getting into for the next 9 months.

I did GTM and have two discs left to go in LEEWS. Read about half of PLS II, but it bored the hell out of me. Also read everything--everything--about succeeding in law school from TLS. I also ordered a book one of my fall profs wrote on the course he'll be teaching.

I'm a 0L so who knows if any of this prep will be beneficial. What I do know is that I got into law school based on my LSAT, not on my GPA. This means that the bulk of my classmates will have higher undergrad GPA's--and thus, likely, better study skills--than I do. I'll take whatever help I can get. If nothing else, the mere fact that I've done some prep has helped ease my mind a bit.

On the flipside, it is very possible that several of them will have high gpa's from schools/majors where it was simply easy as hell to get a high gpa.

I'm in the same boat. My GPA was sub-3.0 by a long shot and an entire point lower than the median, so I'm hoping that 2 years working in the legal world, some post-UG classes with a 3.8 GPA, and whatever damn prep I can do will help me out.
