I'm doing Harvard's as a transfer applicant. 33 pages of fake article littered with mistakes, for which there are about 500 pages of supporting gunk you have to ream through searching for support, or misquotations as the case may be/usually is, and then of course the 20 page case comment (but really it's more like 8 once you factor in the insanely huge margins, 12 point footnotes, spacing and bizarre character per line limits), for which they've kindly given us 680 or so pages of materials. All due in one week. I'm nearly halfway through the editing exercise. If I'm lucky and finish early I might even try Columbia's in the tail end of the same week, it looks rather manageable.

Holy crap. Are you actually able to peruse all ~1200 pages of material or is this a game of selective reading?

who would have thought it would be hard to get on to harvard law review??? < end sarcasm>

Well, the 600 pages for the editing exercise don't have to be read, you just spot-check this and that. The 680 for the case comment don't really have to be read fully either. Most of it is law review articles and they explicitly say you should ignore some/most once you decide what tack you want to take, as different articles suit different thematic approaches. Really, it's a case, your primary obligation is to understand the case and how it relates to previous cases on the same issue. I'm not overly concerned.

ahh, the stairs...I was considering that for my grading but the issue is -- they are all the same weight, save the one guy who helpfully bound his. How will I ever get a curve?

Agree. Write-on is that much harder when you couldn't care less about the journal except that every goddamn employer thinks it's so goddamn fancy.

What would a gunner do? Probably 1 or 2 spaces between sentences. You should go with 3, or even 0!

Also, a hint: don't use Times New Roman for your submission (in fact, Times New Roman is pretty much bad for everything unless you are writing for a narrow-format column). Don't use a sans serif font. If you fully justify (which you should,) make sure you use a typeface that doesn't make all letters the same width. All of these things make your submission more readable.

Hey guys. So happy I found this thread. I got my packet on Friday and have 11 days to finish. I have about 800 pages for the casenote and another 100 something of sources for the editing portion.

I had a thesis yesterday, abandoned it this morning, and am trying to resurrect it this afternoon. FML.
