This is probably going to happen to me, but I hope I can change my ways to prevent it. Not for the purpose of grades, because as you pointed out the crammer can definitely be effective. What happens when you get cold-called? Do you get shamed out of class?

Cold calls don't matter. At all. Ever. In fact, you get BONUS LAW SCHOOL PRESTIGE POINTS based on a calculation that takes the ratio of your GPA to the number of cold calls you blew. The higher that number, the better at life / prioritizing you are.

I still don't like blowing cold calls, though. My classmates don't need any more reasons to think of me as law school barbie.

(I don't talk in class very often, the way some of my classmates do, but once or twice in a semester, when I care about a topic (Braschi v. Stahl, anyone? --LinkRemoved-- ) I will raise my hand and say something that I hope makes sense. I loved class discussions in UG, and part of me is saddened that they have such an aura of douchebaggery attached to them in LS.)

Oo -Braschi was a significant case for all of our memos last semester. You would have loved the topic.

I once asked YCRevolution to make me a 1L GPA Predictor. He told me it would be quite impossible, for just this reason.

Was his reason based on the fact that the correlation was too weak, or that he was missing too many inputs? While the correlation is less than ideal, the simple fact that there is one at all makes me believe that if you had the admission statistics for every single person in your class, I would imagine you could come up with some halfway meaningful probabilities to predict where you are likely to wind up on the curve.
