Re: 1L grade waiting thread
We get all our grades at once, but nothing until at least June 17, and that's IF all the profs turn in their grades on time. If someone doesn't turn it in on time, they should at least let us know which professor so we can flood his/her mailbox

what school are you at?Geist13 wrote:Book Award. I already knew the grade, so it's not that big of a deal. Still pleased though. Another line on the resume to distract from my below median first semester performance.
and how do book awards get decided?
I know you got an A+ but do profs then compare the A+ papers then select the best one?

Re: 1L grade waiting thread
I'm not sure exactly how it's decided. I didn't even know we had them before the dean emailed me. The email says the award is required for every class above a certain size; so I assume the professor for each class of that size or larger has to pick "the best" and tell the registrar which exam number it is.liLtuneChi wrote:what school are you at?Geist13 wrote:Book Award. The personal statement is such a stupid part of the write-on application. I have no idea what they are looking for and I feel like my personal statement I used in my law school applications doesn't exactly answer the write-on application's prompt, so I can't really just cut and paste here. It doesn't help that I'm terribly uninteresting.

EDIT: Seen this has been addressed. Really was hoping to get my grades back before I start my job (Tuesday).

Re: 1L grade waiting thread
The ABA really ought to standardize grading policies, at least in terms of median grades. My law school had a 2.9 to 3.1 intended curve when I started, but realized it made our median students look terrible compared to the median students at schools with more of a 3.3-3.4 median curve. To address that, the admin adjusted the median upward to a 3.4 my 1L year, which made my class look like slobs compared to the class immediately subsequent. That was nice.Borhas wrote:"since my school only gives whole letter grades. "
this is awfully bad policy
While most employers have percentile requirements, many have GPA requirements. Even if there isn't, employers compare GPAs across schools all the time without any real adjustment for GPA median policies. Honors and listing percentile ranks helps, but it's always going to be human nature to look at GPA without context... I know I do.

I wholeheartedly agree. However, my personal statement for law school was primarily about working with others and diversity of opinion. So, I just cut out my school's name and inserted the name of each journal.traehekat wrote:The personal statement is such a stupid part of the write-on application. Also, "posting in the correct thread" fail on my part. Whatever, you will all hear my write-on gripes and LIKE it.Geist13 wrote:I wholeheartedly agree. Holy shit, only A B C? What the fuck man, that makes the curve even more arbitrary and ridiculous.

I have legal practice but I don't really count that as a grade...thalassocrat wrote:Are we counting legal practice as a grade then? I was going to say we only have one real grade so far (IJKL). And I know some of EFGH have their LP back too. I was honestly surprised that one wasn't in right after exams, since we had all our assignments back.Joan Hollaway wrote:I still have none, IJKL has 2. Median PWNED in LRWAP. GPA drop commences; job potential ceases.

Re: 1L grade waiting thread
Well, they only had Crim for 1L classes this semester though. Doesn't really work to compare the schedule any more than it would with 2Ls & 3Ls, at least imo.blowhard wrote:The summer starters have almost all of theirs, including their upper level courses.Joan Hollaway wrote:I still have none, IJKL has 2. And man do I feel sorry for you folks at schools with graded Legal Practice, especially if it's curved. Assuming it's a small section, that's just harsh.

Re: 1L grade waiting thread
OMG no grades back yet. This really worries me. I think my professors must actually be reading the exams. If so, I have no chance of getting good grades. My strategy of using heavy paper and multiple staples for take homes will have been useless if the stair test is not used. if they are really reading the papers they will find out I had no idea what the frack I was talking about!!!!

The class I studied the most for: Median
The class I studied the least for: A
The class I liked the most: A
There is no rhyme or reason to this game.

My school guaranteed us that we will not receive grades prior to June 10. So of course I've been checking every single day for my grades. Sort of like how I was checking status checkers for school decisions the day after I submitted my applications.

LRW final paper in. Smack dab at median. Final grade will likely be just below median. Fuck, I hate that class.
