Re: 1L grade waiting thread
I really need to stop reading this thread. It makes me sick to stomach. My expectations are so far down the shitter now I wouldn't be surprised if I got straight C's (God, I hope not). I don't feel strongly either way for Torts or Crim, but I hope to at least be at a B. I worked my ass offffffffff (but so did the rest of my class. Fuck me.)
My school's mandatory curve: 5% A's, 10% A-'s, 20% B+, 20% B's, 20% B-'s, and 25% gets C+ and lower. 25% C's is terrifying. Seriously.

Yes. Thank you for making that bold for me so it jumps out at me now, haha. Jesus Christ, this. I definitely thought that was in the cards until I arrived at Illinois and realized that almost everyone there was as smart or smarter than I was.IAFG wrote:Remember when TLS c/o 2013 was all convinced they were going to be top 10%? lolsHolly Golightly wrote:Discretionary C in civpro, medianish in CLR, no clue about anything else. Reading this thread makes me so glad I have no particular grade stipulation for my scholarship.

As the days go by, the more and more I feel like I knew everything really well, but choked hard. It would be one thing if I didn't study or didn't know anything, but I just couldn't execute on my exam days
.
On the plus side, at least my school is cheap and I'm not going to be in laughable debt. Not that it helps.

Grades: Mid January.
Internships that I'm applying for have said they want complete applications that include grades.
Debt: Beyond hilarious.

Re: 1L grade waiting thread
I thought we were supposed to get our grades all at once on January 3, but apparently they've been trickling in, so now I check my transcript every few hours. I pulled an A in legal research, but it was a one credit class... I want to know the substantive classes... the ones that'll actually impact my GPA...

Re: 1L grade waiting thread
My school's "suggested" curve for first year classes:
A+ through A: 10%
A- through B: 50%
B- through C: 35%
C- and below: 5%
It says "suggested", so I don't know how precisely each professor follows this - I guess I'll find out soon. But it's pretty scary when you realize that the school's recommended distribution has 40% of the class getting a B- or lower. That's a pretty sizable chunk not doing very well.

It's really more like in between a B and a B+

Re: 1L grade waiting thread
I wouldn't be totally shocked if I were in the top 5% or so, but I'm also willing to have my expectations smashed. If I were to bet even money, though, I'd put that point at top 20%.IAFG wrote:Remember when TLS c/o 2013 was all convinced they were going to be top 10%? lolsHolly Golightly wrote:Discretionary C in civpro, medianish in CLR, no clue about anything else. I feel like I did the best I could have done, and that's all that matters. I'd like to know my grades, but at the same time, I'm not as anxious as I felt waiting for my LSAT score. On the LSAT, a lot is based on luck or your mentality on one certain day. On law school exams, it seems like either you understand the material fluidly or you don't, and therefore you can better predict how you did.
It's hard to know, though. I had no midterms, so I could only compare what I did on exam day to how I did on practice exams with answer checksheets and/or model answers. And I did pretty well on those, and I feel like I did even better on the finals. Thinking back on the exams and talking to some who had taken the same, I haven't found anything major that I've missed on any exam.
I really don't mean to sound arrogant or dismissive, but I feel like I did my best, and that's all that I could have asked of myself. And if I end up below median, than I have nothing to feel sorry about...and that's just life...I will struggle on.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
