Re: Is top-law-schools.com bad for applicants, law students, and the legal profession?
I actually like TLS. In this overwhelmingly negative vacuum of a reality we exist in TLS is by far the most realistic and positive law school website for those who actually WANT to go to law school. It is in sync with the prevailing attitude of the era right now just like the scam blog movement, jdunderground and that one super elite bro board.
I do think TLS drives one narrative into the ground however, T14=BigLaw=Money=Success
And in a way it's true, but I've always been of the opinion that of the T14 there are some cruddy programs (GULC) and then outside of the T14 you have some very strong programs like Vanderbilt, Texas, UCLA and USC. I think that for the 90% who don't have those as options do a real cost/benefit analysis and attend a state flagship in a less saturated market.
I.e, NC has 5 law schools, FL has 11, CA has over 50, but then NM has 1, AZ really only has 2 (Summit will be gone soon) despite being the 16th most populated state, there's a demand in the Midwest, and then in some less desirable markets. Nebraska needs lawyers, I'm sure there's a demand for grads in Kansas or even the south.
The key is minimize costs and put yourself in an advantageous situation.

Yeah, not really ... very few lawyers working as lawyers get rich, even in Biglaw ...FullRamboLSGrad wrote:. I do think TLS drives one narrative into the ground however, T14=BigLaw=Money=Success

That is an incredibly naive statement. I might buy your point if you're talking truly wealthy, but to the vast, vast majority of Americans, a $150k+ salary is quite rich. Yes, loans mitigate that for some, but many go into big law from schollys. Certainly more than "very few."Danteshek wrote:Yeah, not really ... very few lawyers working as lawyers get rich, even in Biglaw ...FullRamboLSGrad wrote:. If You think that will change Your life, You are the naive one
(Enough) money is freedom ... and for that, practicing law is FAR from the solution !

Can we just all agree that "rich" is relative and not have this argument again?
