Re: 1L Summer Employment
It's almost noon and none of the recruiting managers I spammed with writing samples, cover letters and resumes have gotten back to me. I think they took one look at "1L" and my T30 school in the subject line and lol'd.

Managers at firms? Even for 2Ls from T14 it can take weeks to get an acknowledgement...if you get one at all.Peg wrote:It's almost noon and none of the recruiting managers I spammed with writing samples, cover letters and resumes have gotten back to me. APPLY ASAP ! A Lot of firms I know and have ties with don't accept even the MOST stellar resumes if you did not apply on time.ph14 wrote:How necessary is it to apply right on 12/1? Could I wait until the middle or end of December when i'm finished with finals to start worrying about applying?

I think he's picking on you because it's been four hours since you sent your email and you're surprised you haven't heard back yet. It's your impatient naivete that makes it funny.Peg wrote:?headandshoulderos wrote:... it's ok, you are still a special snowflakePeg wrote:

Okay, I wondered but didn't want to make assumptions. Sorry, I usually am not too bad about picking up tone in print, but I have not actually slept since Wednesday 5 AM.HBK wrote:I think he's picking on you because it's been four hours since you sent your email and you're surprised you haven't heard back yet. hah and so you just went to another thread to complain about how your emails are being "ignored." check yourself before your wreck yourself dude. You are on the path of sending too many follow up emails and getting soundly dinged. Not getting a reply within the first day /== getting ignored. Wait a week. This is why K-JD is a bad decision, because K-JD'ers conduct themselves like idiots during the job search and employers can smell it.Peg wrote:Okay, I wondered but didn't want to make assumptions. 1) I wrote on that thread because I noticed that other people were getting replies, not because I was upset at people in this thread and decided to take my grievances elsewhere. I admit I am a little naive in some ways, too bad if that upsets you.headandshoulderos wrote:

2) Believe it or not, I don't send out 1000+ follow up emails.
3) I don't even know what a K-JD is.

LOL. If this is the expectation you have, you're in for a lot of disappointment.Peg wrote:It's almost noon and none of the recruiting managers I spammed with writing samples, cover letters and resumes have gotten back to me. Random etiquette question- when a firm e-mails back and says "We apologize but are not hiring 1Ls due to a full 2L hiring etc. etc. we hope to hear from you next year" is it right to just not reply back or do you need to send a thanks anyway e-mail?

Did you picture an "all hands to the emails" situation where a team of trained specialists combs through all 1L 12/1 submissions to separate the utter dreck from the gold, and sending out CBs that day?Peg wrote:It's almost noon and none of the recruiting managers I spammed with writing samples, cover letters and resumes have gotten back to me.

1L's -- if a 2L who's been there and is offering playful nudge that your concerns are silly, just listen. We have been through all the stuff you are going through and sometimes the best way to help is through ridicule. Nobody here wants you to fail.
