From what I have been told this is good. One person said ~top 15%, but I am not sure how accurate that is. It seems somewhat realistic if top 30% is 3.41.

yeah that class was just a cluster from day one. Not totally her fault, but I definitely think she made it worse.

3.41+ = Stone Scholar = Top ~30%
On a related note, this discussion would probably be better in the Columbia 2013 thread. There is a healthy discussion of our curve in a 0L thread and a nice discussion of CLS grades here, but the thread designed to keep a strong continuous discussion of matters important to class of 2013 has tumbleweeds rolling through it.

Nothing says "Here's your grade, please don't contact me ever again" like a professor quietly slipping in a grade, letting the Registrar notify you, and never saying another word about the exam.
Morrison gave us notification in advance and put up model answers (one by yours truly). It felt a lot more humane and it was almost like he wanted the exams to be a learning experience. All I know is I vastly prefer take-home exams now.
3.76 for me

Here at CLS, we're too busy cutting each others throats to worry about information like this leaking out.

Don't worry bros, haters gon' hate.
But seriously, this makes us CLSers look like huge tools. Should be tools in the CLS thread IMO.

what do you think the gpa cutoff is for firms like that or top DC firms like covington, w&c, and wilmer?
Would I need a 3.7+ for Wachtell, Cravath, and W&C?

Re: 1L grade waiting thread
For Wachtell, a 3.7+ is probably a good place to start. 3.7+ is more than enough (in my opinion) for Cravath. But, at this point, there are other firms in the V10 worth taking over it, so it's not worth worrying about.what do you think the gpa cutoff is for firms like that or top DC firms like covington, w&c, and wilmer?

3.7+ is good enough for Covington, in my opinion. Not enough for W&C. Good enough for WilmerHale, though again there are other DC firms that are worth considering if you are looking at WilmerHale.

so, in your opinion i would need something like 3 As and an A- for W&C? always was my dream firm and knew it would be hard getting there from cls. too bad a little underperformance this semester is likely going to close that option off.
Would it be insane to bid heavily on DC with a ~3.6 from CLS?

No, you wouldn't be insane to do DC with a 3.6, but that's my opinion.

I have a couple of friends who are working there out of hls and they really love it and can't stop talking up its virtues. mostly, though I'm attracted to it because it seems people do especially cool things after leaving (not so much while there)A&O wrote:Come on, really? Re: 1L grade waiting thread
There are many firms where many people have great experiences. W&C is a great place, I'm sure. But it's impractical to approach OCI with a "dream firm." So much depends on your interviewer's idiosyncrasies, your idiosyncrasies, etc. Too many variables. Best to go in with a set of top choices.I have a couple of friends who are working there out of hls and they really love it and can't stop talking up its virtues. mostly, though I'm attracted to it because it seems people do especially cool things after leaving (not so much while there)

What class rank is 3.7 at CLS? I would guess that if 3.7 from UVA is good enough for W&C, so is a 3.7 from CLS...A&O wrote:For Wachtell, a 3.7+ is probably a good place to start. 3.7+ is more than enough (in my opinion) for Cravath. TITCR - top 5% at any Top 14 will get you past the grade threshold for any firm.RVP11 wrote:That's easily good enough for W&C, then. So for the more "normal GPA" people out there, can someone comment on what (approximate) GPAs we'd need for the various vault ranges ITE? E.g., for V10, V20, V50, V100, biglaw in general, etc. (I am aware that vault doesn't necessarily correlate with selectivity, but just speaking roughly for now).

Re: 1L grade waiting thread
The tough part of this is that there are firms at each level (V10, V20, V50, V100) that will go down to medianish at T14. And there are firms at each level where you probably have no chance even with top quarter at T14. Vault ranking has just about ZERO correlation with selectivity outside the V25 or so. You'll really have to ask about particular firms.huckabees wrote:So for the more "normal GPA" people out there, can someone comment on what (approximate) GPAs we'd need for the various vault ranges ITE?
