I'm an incoming 0L (164 LSAT; 3.5 GPA from a public ivy). Going to a T-30 school and hoping to transfer up next year ideally to CCN. What kind of grades to I need in 1L for this to be realistic?

You would need to be around the top 5%. Focus on being as high in your class as you can, but don't in any way count on this, as it is highly unlikely to happen. 19/20 change you will be graduating from your school, so don't start getting your hopes up about transferring to CCN.

Do you have any idea how much easier it would be to get into a top school by retaking the LSAT than by being at the top of your class at a t30?

I studied my ass off for the LSAT for months, while working full-time, didn't do well the first time, and buckled down and studied my ass off even more for the 164. Generally, sure, it might be easier to do that -- but personally, I'm not sure that it would be that easy.

It's not that scoring higher on the LSAT is easy, it's that it's easier/more certain (by far) than being the top 5-10% of your class. Anyway, it doesn't matter what the class rank you need to transfer is - you can't plan to hit a certain band. Just plan on being number 1 in the class. It won't happen, but you might as well shoot for the stars.

You do not need top 5% to transfer to CCN from a T30.

At my T-20, no one outside top 10% got into any CCN, and for those between 5%-10%, it was hit and miss. Sure, if he gets closer to 10%, probably still gets into 1. But to be safe and have your choice, I'd say top 5%.
