FTFY. Drudge is great if you want to know the latest conservative gossip and conspiracy theories, but its not good for much else. WSJ has been going down a bit in my opinion (the editorials have become garbage). Economist is always a good idea, Financial Times is great too.Mr. Pancakes wrote:It depends on what you are into. I prefer written media to TV because I'll be able to read it in between classes.a littleextremely conservative leaning, but it aggregates a bunch of articles onto one site for easier access.

Any idea what the length in minutes is for a typical issue?Renzo wrote:Oh, I forgot to mention: as an added bonus, if you subscribe to the Economist, you can download an audio edition of a word-for word reading of each week's issue. Great way to get some high-quality news while you're driving of folding laundry.

Read these and you'll sound educated, for sure.Hot Pocket wrote:Magazines: Economist, Foreign Affairs, The Atlantic, and anything Michael Lewis puts into Vanity Fair.Mr. Pancakes wrote:I agree with this. pretty good magazine.OldMan2015 wrote:The Economist is excellent for what you want.
You can get student discounts on at least the first two. The Economist also has excellent iPhone and iPad apps that make it easier to read an entire issue in a week. Foreign Affairs is working on an app, too, but their mobile site is pretty good for now.

Seven hours, but you can play it at 1.5x and save some time.LjakW wrote:Any idea what the length in minutes is for a typical issue?Renzo wrote:Oh, I forgot to mention: as an added bonus, if you subscribe to the Economist, you can download an audio edition of a word-for word reading of each week's issue. The Economist if you are a libertarian
The New Yorker if you are a liberal
The Wallstreet Journal if you are a Republican

Just force your uneducated opinions down people's throats night and day, and after a while people will start thinking you must know what you're talking about. If you're really good at this, you could become a radio pundit.Theworm788 wrote:Part of the reason that I'm questioning whether to do this is because I really don't care about the rest of the world, even a little. I can probably name fewer than 20 countries other than America (I'm the kind of person who insists on calling American America, even though I know other countries insist on calling us the United States).
It's just about trying to fool other people into thinking I'm less ignorant than I actually am...but I'm not sure if it's worth all the effort. I'm also considering just accepting my ignorance and turning it into a strength.

Never said I didn't like it. I'm just curious about whether there was a specific reason why OP wanted to seem educated. Peer acceptance? Schmoozing? I also wonder considering that OP got into law school in the first place why this would be an issue assuming he's not at a TTT.Mr. Pancakes wrote:Why are you dragging up dead threads? Re: What should I read to seem educated?
Do you have an iPhone or an iPad? I recommend Zite. It is a personalizable magazine. You pick the sections and it goes to the sites and downloads a bunch of stories for you. For some stories, it actually condenses the article into 1-2 pages that you can read in under a minute. But it also has links to the full article if you want more. Zite allows you to upvote and downvote stories, so it becomes tailored to your interest.
Finally, you can setup fairly obscure (from a news-provider's perspective) categories. For instance, I have setup a "Patent" category, which delivers stories from numerous sources, mainly related to patent litigation. I can't think of another way to get this in one place.
Zite is a great way to scan the headlines and read 2-3 stories in 10 under minutes.
