Less practice tests. I was so burned out by the time the tests came. I will also focus more on possible policy questions.

I'm so glad I never bothered to write a single brief... at first it felt weird since everyone else was spending hours on them, but I think it worked out for the better (although, not having received most of my grades, I'll leave that statement open for revision).CactusPuppy wrote:Ya. I didnt write a single brief and I still feel like I might have missed out and possibly have a lower grade because of it. Although for next semester im going to take detailed notes before class, and only add a little while in class.

This! Assuming that I am satisfied with my grades.NYC Law wrote:Do less for the first couple months and not stress over not doing anything aside from keeping up with the reading.
Though I would like to actually make my own outlines as I go, but we'll see if that actually happens.

E&Es/Hornbooks.
Outline as I go.
Finish reading for all classes 4 weeks before exams.
3-4 weeks before exams: memorize/understand all the material.
2-1 weeks before exams: practice exams.
And still need to get my type speed up. Way up.

Get cozier with all of my professors and convince them to give me the exams and model answers ahead of time.

Meet people outside of law school.
Even though I don't have grades back yet, I think I'd address exams differently. If a professor really stressed something all semester and it doesn't seem like there's a question on that topic on the exam, I should try to force it and find a way to fit it into an essay. Maybe not, though.
Also, stop buying coffee at the law school.

(1) Drink, socialize, and play sports more. Studying 8 hours a day is not what gets you a good grade in law school
(2) Outline from day one
(3) No more facebook between classes. Use that time to outline the cases that were just discussed in class. Use the night to read E&E.
(4) Skip more
(5) Go to office hours once every other week
(6) Look at practice exams at the beginning, middle, and end of the semester
(7) Read old outlines at the beginning, middle, and end of the semester

Also do away with the computer completely, unless its for typing up my notes at night, but I've decided to do everything on paper next semester.

I hate law students. I need to figure out where to meet non-law student friends.

sums up my strategyJessuf wrote:-read pre-written briefs instead of the cases
-only read footnotes in the casebooks
-start outlining earlier
-supplement confusing material as i go instead of teaching it to myself right before exams
-work ahead?? will probably fail at this
-work out more
-drink more
-shop less on amazon during study breaks
-take more practice exams
-start LRW papers earlier

I'm the opposite. I love my classmates and I love going out with them. I get irritated when I talk with non-lawyers about anything substantive.

Considering that this seems to be the consensus, I am wondering if I am just lucky with the friends I've made or something about TLS is self-selecting towards hating their own kind. I really like going out or just chilling with most of my classmates. Most are pretty cool people (save for the few obligatory douches).Dany wrote:God, this.cinephile wrote:Meet people outside of law school.

I'm not religious, but I've decided to join a church. That's a good way to feel like part of a community. Also hoping to meet people by joining a jogging group.Dany wrote:God, this.cinephile wrote:Meet people outside of law school.

Hmm. That could be a good call - I bet there are some sweet cults in NYC...cinephile wrote:I'm not religious, but I've decided to join a church. That's a good way to feel like part of a community. Re: 1Ls: What are you going to do differently next semester?
I feel somewhere in between. I like many of the people in my class, but I feel like when they go out, they go really lame places. I'm going to try to find people that like to do things other than go to bars with 80% 18-21 year old undergrads.MrPapagiorgio wrote:Considering that this seems to be the consensus, I am wondering if I am just lucky with the friends I've made or something about TLS is self-selecting towards hating their own kind.
